stacymckenna
Today while out adventuring we stumbled across a geocache not listed on the map in the app. The log sheet was lying on the ground, totally unprotected. While we found part of the container where it belonged, I have no idea what they were using for weather protection for this geocache. How do I find the owner and notify them to rectify it before the rains predicated later this week? It was by the "Fork In The Road" public art piece in Pasadena, CA Quote Link to comment
+noncentric
There are several reasons that the cache you found doesn't show up on your app. -- Depending on which app you are using, the cache could be 'restricted'. For example, the official Geocaching-R app only shows Traditional caches with a maximum D/T rating of 1.5/1.5 and other apps may have different restrictions. -- The cache you found may be a Premium Member Only (PMO) cache, in which case no app should allow you to see that cache. -- The cache might also be a final for a multi or mystery cache. You would be able to see these caches when viewing the geocache map on the website, unless the multi/mystery is listed as "PMO", but the icon for the cache would usually be at a different location than where the cache container is hidden. Those are some possibilities of WHY you couldn't find the cache on the app. Now, what to do about finding the cache owner (CO).It's great that you want to return your findings to the CO. -- Was there a cache name or "GCxxxxx" code on the logsheet? Sometimes that information is written on the top of the logsheet. -- Who are some of the recent finders of the cache? You could look up those cachers and see which caches they found on those dates to determine which cache it might be. Feel free to post some of the cache names/dates in this thread, as some forum users could help with identifying the cache. I do see that there's a PMO cache at the fork in the road. It was found in November, December, and January (on the 21st) without any indication of a problem though.
