Message Center Photos

Previously photos attached in Message Center when clicked would open up to view the full photo. This doesn't appear to work anymore and all I see is a thumbnail. Is there a fix or is this a known issue?

I recently got a message that had a photo, and notice the effect you mention. Double-click, and it's still a thumbnail. I hadn't received a photo in the MC before, so I couldn't tell if there's supposed to be a way to enlarge the photo.

But try this: Right click the image, select (in Internet Explorer) "Open link in new window". If you're using another browser that has no such option, let me know, and I'll try to figure it out.

I was able to view a slightly larger version of the thumbnail image with that method. I don't know what the actual uploaded size was, but the new window showed an unimpressively small photo, just under 4x the size of the thumbnail.

As a test just now, I tried to upload a full-size 4608x3506 pixel photo from one of my cameras, and that kinda crashed the MC. The message didn't get sent, it just greyed-out and sat there for 10 minutes and then was gone when I refreshed the page. So I don't know what the ideal photo size is, but that size is too big.

Hi,

same bug with the latest Chrome Version / Windows 8.

I got messages this week containing several images. In both cases, I could only see thumbnails of them. Can someone at GS please try to read that for me , because I can't !

It may help debug : the code looks like this :

<li data-msg-model="">
   <div class="msg-attachments ">
       <a href="https://img.geocaching.com/communication/full_size_image.jpg" target="_blank">
           <img src="https://img.geocaching.com/communication/thumb/thumb_image.jpg" alt="Attached Image" data-modalsource="https://img.geocaching.com/communication/full_size_image.jpg" data-modaltemplate="image">

       </a>
   </div>
   <span class="msg-text ">
       null
   </span>
</li>

Though the link to the full size image is there, the image doesn't pop up when I click on the thumbnail / right click + open in new tab or window. I get following error :

app-built?v=SCpQgBPPoW-S41TZMP9oXhvdKlbRHVGsB15jc_PIPzk1:1 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'show' of undefined

App.EventBus.getRegion("modal-bg").show(new f);

"new f" obviously doesn't work...

As I unfortunately (also) don't work for GS, I won't look further into the problemn. Still, it would be nice to have it fixed, wouldn't it ? I guess not everyone is willing to copy images links from the source code to be able to open them. At least I'm not.

Happy new year, keep up the good work.

Though the link to the full size image is there, the image doesn't pop up when I click on the thumbnail / right click + open in new tab or window.

It can work in Windows 10, I guess depending on how a PC is set up. By right-clicking and "Open link in new window" I can open the larger image in Google Chrome "Version 55.0.2883.87 m", and Internet Explorer "Version 11.713.10586.0". I haven't tried it in other browsers.

I was able to upload a photo 500 pixels wide, and its thumbnail opens with the Open Link trick. The big photo I previously tried to upload caused the page to hang.

But, yeah, maybe something's wrong with the code. In this instance, there's an errant "OBJ" box in there:

Or maybe too much was copied/pasted into the message. Anyway, it shows.

I tried it in the Official App, and it works fine. Tapping the thumbnail opens the picture.

It seems to me that the Message Center is it's for App users, especially new users testing the App. So the priority should be to keep the MC functioning in the App, which I guess is the priority. I wish it worked just as well in web browsers, but that's not happening.

a very small image which can not be opened when you click on it - it doesnt enlarge once uploaded and it doesn't revert to full size when you save it.

Is there a reason for this or is this a glitch

The process to open it in a PC web browser is by right-clicking the thumbnail and selecting "Open link in new window". Sorry, I cannot explain the reason for such changes. I think there isn't one. :anibad:

It's different in the Official Geocaching App. There you can tap the thumbnail. The disadvantage of the App is you can't directly save or share the image once it's enlarged.

Thats odd earlier when I tried the right click, open link in new tab/window - it came up with the image the same thumbnail size, just tried it again and this time it works with full image - obviously not the supposed method as double clicking should do this - I now note that a GC has a ticket put in to address this so will wait on their findings - thanks
