Corn Maze!

Anyone ever do the "corn maze" with their GPSr? Think I may give it a try this year. In case you are wondering what I am talking about it is a very large maze cut in a field of corn just south of Mt Vernon WA.

Too bad the satellite images at terraserver are not real time - you could load the route into GPS and make it seem like a cakewalk with a GPS!

Isn't there a similar maze in Oregon? Sorry I can't provide more info, but I recall reading about it a year or so ago.

 

Maybe it was the Washington one; It was pre-caching days, which means my geographic skills were slightly better than a rock.

Around Halloween they have one on Sauvie Island in Northwest Portland.

 

It's fairly fun, but really easy.

I have seen is between McMinnville and Sheridan on the "highway of death" Hwy 18, at the turnoff to the Old Sheridan Highway and Masonville Road. Here are the coords(according to my memory and ExpertGPS): N45*10.323, W123*14.698

Another nice one that's open through most of October is at Hunters Christmas Trees in southeast Olympia, near the Amtrak station. MapPoint shows it as close to N 46° 59.281, W 122° 47.166.

 

(Amazingly enough, no caches within 4¾ miles.)

 

I don't know how well a GPS would work in a corn maze, though. It's not so tough to know where you are... the hard part is knowing how to get over there (*pointing*).

A GPS would be more or less useless. The one near Victor MT had postcards with a aerial view, so you might be able to scale it out and establish waypoints if you really wanted to work at it. Leave the GPS at home, and enjoy the frustration of getting completely tangled up in a few acres of corn.

There is another corn maze in Salem, at the corner of Chemawa rd and Cordon rd (farm with a pumpkin patch, hay rides, corn maze...). Normally see it open just before holloween.

Im going to talk with the folks at our local maze and see about setting up waypoints at the hint locations in the maze. I guess it would be a test to see who has the best waypoint entry skills.
