Syn
Attention Montana Geocachers: I will departing the from Orygun on August 23rd and will be in the Montana state limits approximately 6 hours after departure. I will be arriving at a predetermined location in Montana roughly 7-8 hours after I cross the state line. I will be approximately 107 miles East of Great Falls in a town called Lewistown. Be prepared to have all caches within 100 square miles of this location to be conquered by yours truly. Also be prepared to have some life pumped into your state by having some new caches placed. These caches will be extremely well hidden and will have extensive cheat clues as I only go to Montana twice per year so maintenance will be delayed. Now if there are any travel bugs that will need to be transported from Orygun to there, Please notify me ASAP to arrange a pickup from the Canemah Cache by Hunterhogan. Also if any travel bugs need to travel from Montana back to Orygun then I will also need to be notified to arrange a pickup. Quote Link to comment

Ummm, excuse me? Life pumped into our state? Maybe the Lewiston area is a little slow on the draw, but come west a little and life is not something we're lacking. Also, thanks for mentioning you'll be doing maintenance on your caches. We've had some issues round these parts lately with tourists dropping poorly placed caches with no intention to ever maintain them. Rather frustrating, to say the least. Re: Travel bugs. I suppose you'll probably drive right past this cache. Feel free to visit it both comming and going to help whichever bugs you can. +oregone
i seem to remember this from april. quote:Originally posted by Syn:I am going to be coming to Montana (lewistown) in july or august. I plan on personally at least doubling the amount of caches in Montana. Now the only problem is, I will be coming in through spokane and great falls and will be placing them randomly along the way. Some will take some thought and hopefully give you a challenge but they will centered around the Lewistown area as I drive the entire way and dont stop at hotels 16 and half hour drive. I will not be able to maintain these caches and will need you guys to "adopt them" The only problem is...do you guys want these caches? If you dont want them and hate people to leave caches and then not maintain them ..then I wont put them there...I will just log some virtuals...even though I hate virtuals cuz I want to find some treasure dangit. I figure you wont have any objections as there are only 54 caches in montana now and would welcome some new blood. ps I am trying to spread the word in the montana chat rooms for you guys so you dont have to keep driving to the same caches every weekend and pretending like its a new one. waynepdx all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed Quote Link to comment
bellemanda
Have a great time in Montana SYN. I know when i took my jaunt to MT, i was impressed with the quality of the caches. I was constantly in search of good vistas and the caches helped me find them. One geocaching regret is that i didn't get to meet the Missoula geocachers, they hosted a shin-dig while i was there, but the 4 hour drive and a motel room alone out wieghed the idea of friendly beer -- Don't take it personally if they offer you their secret hand shake... see logs of event cache in July I am sure MT thanks you for your warning on the upcoming Geoconquering, kinda like a bear bell... and remember, bear pepper-spray used incorrectly makes you smell like pepper jerky.? ~~ I'm not great enough to be modest. +Seth!
Wayne, er, Syn: Placing one or two caches while on your trip sounds swell. But don't go too crazy. The good folks of Montana probably don't need a whole bunch of unattended caches over there. Don't forget your toothbrush. And be sure to call. Love, Mom! P.S. How do you pronounce Syn anyway? The girls at the bridge club are wondering. Quote Link to comment
+IFR GPS
Syn, Just remember, you are going to EASTERN Montana, there are about 3, or by now maybe 5 geocaches in that whole part of the state, and Montana is a Big state. And referring to the earlier post in April, Well; Skydiver, Asatraur, and Rye and Liegh have beaten you to the punch by doubling the number of caches in the state:-) Quote Link to comment
+Rye_and_Leigh
If you want a *real* challenge, try hanging out somewhere that actually has more than a dozen caches within 100 miles. Heck, if you can even find all of the following *SIX* caches in under 2 weeks, then we'll think about being impressed. It should be easy for a big ol' cache-veteran like you; they're all within 25 miles of zip code 59801. Think you can do it? Syn
An event cache in Missoula would be awesome. I have brang five caches with me to place in Montana. There will be several set up in the Lewistown area, and I would like to set up a night one in Missoula. With your guys help of course (ryan and leigh-I hope I didnt spell that wrong). Please see my nocturnal ommisions cache to see how it will work. Also see after dark in Vancouver, WA. I will be placing a couple of them on the way back at some rest areas as the travelers coming through Montana may not have the time to do a difficult one. I will be in Great Falls tomorrow hunting caches. Hope to see some of you on the trail. Quote Link to comment

I hope that you don't leave caches around the Missoula area without finding someone to adopt them first. We have been working hard to clean up the "drive-by" caches that people seem to like to leave lying around the area while on vacation. At least around here the "drive-bys" have been very poorly placed and have been plundered rapidly. No one knows the area like the locals. Personally, we wouldn't dream of leaving a cache in a place we didn't live close enough to that we could properly maintain. Speaking of an event cache, when will you be through Missoula? Give a date/time range and we'll set one up. Pizza and beer work for you? [This message was edited by Rye_and_Leigh on August 25, 2002 at 06:25 PM.] Quote Link to comment
Syn
I am leaving to go back home as soon as humanly possible...tomorrow....I have already booked a flight out of great falls. My sister and I do not get along at all and I would rather shoot myself in the head than ride in the car with her for one more minute. I actually went to go hunt a cache today, and I thought I would at least be able to go by myself. Well since we came in her car I was stuck listening to her for almost 2 hours on the way to great falls....... Why 2 hours...because she drives 45 in a dang 70 mile an hour zone. and we were still 30 miles away from the cache. So I will plan a trip next year where I drive by myself and wont be a slave to someone else. Thanks for the gesture though..I appreciate it. Quote Link to comment

Syn
I wound up staying and hitting one cache in Great Falls today. I did place 4 of them today also. I beat you to a nightime one. I stopped to stretch my legs and wham...I perfect little hiking trail along a creek that just begged for a nightime cache. We are leaving tomorrow morning to go to Butte and then on to spokane...I will try and hunt some in your neck of the woods..or hills I should say but I dont know If I will have time. Chief Paulina
I'll be making the whirlwind tour thru Montana the week of the 23rd. Missoula, Great Falls, Bozeman, Billings. I'll be on the fly, so I'd appeciate something not too far off of the road. I lived in Missoula years ago, so let's see if you can suggest someplace I haven't seen.... Hope to be at the local brewpub on the 23rd eve. Come on by and say hi. Thanks in advance Paulina Quote Link to comment

Chief Paulina
Thanks all. You are the best. I will try to taste a little of everyone's cache if time allows. Perhaps I should taste a little of every brew available too. It has been a long time since I lived there. There was no such thing as microbrew back then. No such thing as Mountain bike either. I am getting old. Have been back from time to time. The pub I'm thinking of was in the train depot, I believe. I'm open to new ideas. Thanks again. Quote Link to comment
