seeing archived caches on geocaching.com?

Hi,

 

Is there any way to find archived caches that you haven't already got a personal pointer (watchlist, log entry) for, either in pocket queries, searches, or on the map?

 

There's a "blank area" I'm thinking of putting some caches in, but I'd like to see if there's any history of archived caches in it, in case there have been problems with vandalism.

Good question. I believe there's a way to search for archived listings on project gc but I've never used it.

You can use Map Compare on Project GC to show archived caches.

I have all archive Belgian caches in a database. Years ago I downloaded a GPX with archived caches and I kept it up2date since then.

Has come in handy a few times solving mysteries where coordinates for archived caches was needed.

I'm sure both of you meant well, but the short or basic answer is actually yes. It's easy to find archived caches on project-gc.com using the map compare tool.

Yes, it is a handy tool to see whether the spot one is eyeing for a new cache has been problematic in the past.
