TBXXXX and Tracking Code

Hi,

 

This might be a noob question, but what is the difference between the code printed on the TB and the code given when you activate?

 

If for example I look at a TB in a cache (whether i'm there or not) I still get the option to log it?

 

I thought the whole point of the code printed on the TB was that, that was the only way to log it?

 

Maybe i'm getting confused or doing something wrong?
