New Cache

Maybe. If there were land manager permission problems or problems with the neighbours, then no - better not to (or not allowed to) put one there.

If it's a spot that caches regularly go missing, it'd be unwise to put a new one there.

But if you can get land manager permission, the neighbours are not hostile, and you're willing for your cache to disappear like the previous one, then yes - you're allowed to put a new cache there, assuming no one else has done so already. :)

Thanks. I think the issue was that the Cache had been there 9 years, the original tin container had rusted out and the Geocacher had moved on, its a great location alongside the Red Deer River in Alberta.

Caches don't get deleted from the system. They will stay in the system. Caches can get archived though. That's when it's removed from play. You really should know about the guidlines and log types (including archiving a cache) before you place a cache.

Yes, I guess that would be helpful Ah

So can one place a new cache in the same location as one that has been archived ?

Yes. The others have noted reasons why the old cache might have been archived, and any new cache placement will run into the same problems.

The new cache placement will go through the Review process the same as any new hide.
