+lumbricus
Hi, I would like to share funny EarthCache tasks. I'll start with one of my own EarthCaches and hope you will come up with something. To bring EarthCachers in touch with the clay I thought "creating a Pretzl" would be fun. Hands getting dirty but you will feel the sand component, maybe some mica in there, you will notice what the amount of water is doing with the clay if you mix them and so on. Some pictures here. Regards, lumbricus Quote Link to comment
+dprovan
I did one just north of San Francisco where the lesson was to recognize the multiple sources of the sand on the beach. It called for finding particular types of sand grains, including one that seemed like a one-in-a-million example. I never did find that rare type, but looking for it really got me to look very carefully at the grains and recognize all kinds of minor variations between them, some relevant, some unimportant. If I was less trustworthy, I might wonder if the rare example really existed or was just the CO's way of forcing my to look more closely than I otherwise would have. Quote Link to comment

+lumbricus
Here is another EarthCache which seems to be fun for Geocachers, especially for families with kids. Some pictures. The topic is sand. You need a sieve for it. Quote Link to comment

+geodarts
Here is another EarthCache which seems to be fun for Geocachers, especially for families with kids. Some pictures. The topic is sand. You need a sieve for it. I am always interested in Sand! My favorite earthcaches are those that have required hands on tasks to discover certain kids of megacrystals, fossils, pebbles, xenoliths, or zeolites. So, yes, getting down and dirty and making pretzels would be fun. Sand seems particularly apt for this kind of experience: Rainbows Sands of Rodeo Beach But other things to find have included: AZ -Zeolites Xenolith - Joshua Tree Megacrystals of Rattlesnake Canyon Edited August 4, 2016 by geodarts Quote Link to comment

+Harry Dolphin
I rather enjoyed this one: If you have children with you, pick up any two reddish rocks. Rub them together briskly for a few seconds. Dab a drop or two of water on the powder that is released and use this residue to "paint" a line or two on your hand. Post the photo of their "artwork" with your log. What is the substance that created the reddish "paint? Quote Link to comment

+Carbon Hunter
I seem to recall reading about an EC in the USA regarding natural salt mine - and having to lick the surface of the rock??? Many photos of that too - sorry - can't remember to post that one. Also in Qatar i remember doing a "singing dunes: cache that involved running down a sand dune. Quote Link to comment

+narcissa
I'm sure there are others like it, but I just remembered this one that has you find a piece of iron ore and stick a magnet to it. https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC1GRQ0_the-marmoraton Quote Link to comment

The museum had a traditional cache as well, which, conveniently, had a magnet. Quote Link to comment
