+LycanthroFee
Hi, all! So I have recently purchased a TB, which I will release on the 13th to mark another anniversary with my girlfriend, but I'm unsure of what to put on it. If I put something of too much value on it, will it be stolen? I'm probably going to attatch it to a charm if I can find one, but I'm scared I'll have something nabbed. Quote Link to comment

The moment you release a TB "in the wild" it's best to consider it lost. Quote Link to comment

The odds are very good that it will be stolen. If it's cute or shiny or the least bit attractive, it will go missing. Never, ever attach anything as a traveller that you can't bear to lose. B. +Scratch Ankle
It isn't just an issue of being stolen. The method of attachment has a bit to do with whether that cute fuzzy pet stays attached to the TB. If it breaks it becomes separated and will be mistaken as swag. No theft involved in that case. +cerberus1
Doubtful that your trackable would be "picked clean" of any attachments. Most times, the entire trackable goes missing. Exceptions are often plush toys and dolls. Kids want the toy, not neccessarily the tag attached, and grabbed while Mom's signing the log. Use a key ring (or light cable) for attachment, rather than that bead chain. Good luck. Quote Link to comment
+BlackRose67
I typically attach key fobs or the like from the dollar store. As noted by others, it is possible the TB will disappear, but that's the risk associated with releasing TB's. One of my friends come back to life after being lost in someone's house for 10 years. +wmpastor
Even a laminated photo of a pet attached to a TB can have such appeal to a child that the parents can't bear to tell the child that theft is a no-no! Quote Link to comment
+Goldsmith
I think you have gotten the best advice already, and that is to assume it will disappear. My youngest daughter and I love to put out travel bugs even though our first one went missing after less than two miles was on it. Being creative with the project is half the fun and the more we put out, the more fun we are having. If you purchase something to attach that has value to you, buy a second one to keep for yourself. Consider it sharing a message with the world and it will be more fun and less stress. Quote Link to comment
+LycanthroFee
thank you all for giving me these wonderful advice! I've chosen a small cuddly rabbit to go on my tb, which I will write 'do not keep me, i am part of a travel bug' and the code on it! hopefully nobody nabs it, but what can you really do? the only way to make sure they're 100% safe is to hang onto them forever! +fuzziebear3
Small cuddly rabbit might be too cute for little Sally. But that is the chance we take. Also remember that it might be damp in the container, and cuddly soon becomes soggy. Sometimes tough ugly plastic thing works better. YMMV. Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
We have a few unactivated TB tags left over in their bags, so haven't needed to buy new. Doesn't the newer version still say "Do Not Keep Me" on it already? - You see how well that's working... Quote Link to comment
+LycanthroFee
someone brang it up that I can activate the TB then keep it on hand so it can be discovered and so i can have it visit caches - that's actually a really good idea and I think I'll do that! Quote Link to comment
+TheAuthorityFigures
tag attachment View the gallery pics to see. TB tag attachment method. Works well with objects like this. I use lock-tite on the cable so a "casual" attempt to remove the tags won't work. It has to be cut. Quote Link to comment
+Doc & Dar
Yes they will be stolen. We've had 10 TBs attached to different items and everyone is gone. But the good news is there are plenty of people who will log a find on your stolen bug so it will never fade from memory. Quote Link to comment
+MerseysideCache
You could write "Don't steal me" in neon letters 10 feet high and put a rat trap on them so if someone tries to steal them it snaps on them and that still won't stop someone from stealing it. We've lost all of ours and I guess that's the risk you take when you send one out.(I am waiting for the new one to come in memory of our sons trackable that went missing) Quote Link to comment
