HQ Duck Dash TB race

10 days ago a new boattrail near my house was published. I got FTF on some of them including the final bonus cache. I just got back from a second visit to that cache... At 0:15 AM I left home on my bike with a flashlight, my waders and my 7 ducks

A few minutes later I arrived at the small bridge under which the final was located, put on my waders and brought my ducks to the water...

At around 0:25 the ducks posed for a final drop off picture and I put them all in the cache...

 

Thankfully nobody saw me...I have no idea how I could have explained my activity without being deported to some sort of asylum...

I found out that if you properly registered your non-Seven Deadly Duck, regular TB for the race through the online form, they change your TB icon to a Second Deadly Duck Icon. Here is a sample:

But most of my other questions are still unanswered.

 

I checked and mine TB6BHZ3, a non-seven DD entry, did get the icon. But I still don't know where and when the badge will appear. TB was released today 7/20

I think we have to wait until after 8/20 -- and I think that the duck needs to attend an event as well in order for you to get it as well.

I don't think your duck has to make it to an event to get the badge. Here's an excerpt from the blog about it

 

First off, everyone’s a winner! All participating trackable owners will receive a HQ Duck Dash badge to add to their profile.

 

We just don't know when that is going to be

Came here to ask the same question. Both my official duck and non-duck TBs were registered and have the duck icon now, but I was expecting a souvenir or something when I dropped them off. Hopefully we'll find out soon enough.

I released all 7:

4 still sit, untouched

1 has been moved to another cache

1 is still traveling

1 was 'discovered' in a different cache than I placed it in and doesn't show up on the new cache's inventory ... and has been found several times since.

 

If anything it's fun to watch them!

 

In the meantime, waiting until 08/20 ... I guess. haha

Now one gripe I have about this icon business. Groundspeak didn't tell us the TBs were going to get duck icons. So I released a Game Changer 4 Nature TB that already had it's own special icon. My son used an American travel bug TB and it also had its own icon.

 

All the info for that Game Change 4 Nature TB is gone and the icon is gone. I probably would not have used those TBs for the race if I knew they were going to scrub the icon. Not the end of the world and I might ask them to switch them back when it is finished. Just a little frustrating is all.

I'm just visiting with mine for now, I can't let the little fella go. I'm so fearful of him going missing. But, I will let him go before August 20th. I also understand that anyone entering the race, according to the instructions, will get a souvenir. I imagine we won't get them until the 20th. I also think it will be very difficult to get my duck to an event, unless I move it pretty far away, to a more popular area. It really is a shame about the muggles. I brought my geocaching buddy to a FTF I found a couple weeks ago, and it was gone! The whole cache was gone! It really is a shame.

*GASP* HOLY CAT! That really sucks. Muggles are one thing but the whole ripping off of an entire cache? *flips table* Are you going to release more ducks?

 

I'm w/ThistleMae as well. Always fearful that they will get ripped off. *sigh* I released them never-the-less. I have ZERO faith that any of mine will actually get to an event on the 20th. One thing that I've noticed is the COPY tags. I found one of those guys a few days ago and it's been traveling since 2005. Yet a trackable tags don't seem to go very far or last very long. That's what I've noticed. I'm new though, I'm not even a year old yet.

You don't get a souvenir for entering a TB in the Duck Dash, you get a badge for your profile.

Think I’m doing relatively well then… My 2 were released in Leicester, UK on the 20th July and are both still travelling though I doubt that they will attend an event on the 20th but I remain ever hopeful… There’s no events being held near me so quite relieved that I have no responsibilities to take a HQ Duck Dash TB to an event…

I sent out two ducks (official Groundspeak TB's), both of which ended up at events on August 20. But no badge, souvenir, or any other sign that this has actually been noticed. No big problem, but what was the race all about then? I even organised an event so that others in the area could bring any ducks there to fulfil their goal.

This is the weekend.

IIRC, folks at Groundspeak were going to give awards by distance, most cachers, best pics, most caches, and such.

I'd bet after they have their coffee tomorrow morning, all the "stuff" will be sorted out.

Probably just doesn't want to give any up (they have two others) until they get to Texas (by their logs), but they've only had yours since the 20th.

No logs about it, did they email you for some reason ?

Not dead -- I want mine to keep on traveling.
