Eastside cachers

Yes, there was a loooooong discussion about this in the General forums (you know the type...it went on for about 5 pages of ranting and arguing). The pirate has slowly changed his tune, and is now promising to rehide the cache contents. Supposedly, the Peanut Butter Brigade will be getting clues soon.

My husband figured out the person's name, but we decided not to report this to the admins or do anything unless the pirate gets nasty again. I suspect the pirate meant to just take things in a fun way, but he didn't think things through. His web site even tells other potential pirates that they should provide a map of where the caches are re-hidden (quite a change from his original stance).

We all had a great time in Bremerton! Pepper's already noted the number of caches found. Donna and I are night owls so we just had to go out for a few more boxes. Lot of fun!!!! Of course I had to remind her of the Blair Witch Project while doing the first cache...Nad Marine Night cache or something like that. Then we hit some cemetery caches afterwards. One way home the next day, we hit a super cache by Criminal...Log Cache. We all agreed it was our favorite cache of the binge.

I had a great time reading all of the logs from the various hikers. I chuckled all the way through. I'm glad that everyone took the time to post long messages, and I hope to see some photos soon!

Wow, sounds like some serious hiking! And some great views.

I would like to do those hikes but I am not an experienced backcountry hiker. Maybe I could join the next group outing.

Getting the family to hike is out of the question. Mt Si and Rattlesnake Mountain (the hiker freeways) elict more whines than oohs and ahhs from them.

Hike is easier than Si! Yes, that last bit is a grind as others noted, but you can do it!

Yeah, I remember that one!!! Boy, I was sooo close to it sooo many times and didn't see it. Thing I like aobut Koska is that he hides things in places with very good signal and his coords are very, very good.

Well I finally got that bugger with JuanitaRebel. A clear head, muscles in need of stretching out and a sharper eye for detail did it.

I am interested and I got an official "Get out of jail free card" from the family. icon_smile.gif My pref would be to start early. Also, what day looks good for you, MA? Sunday is best for me.

Just a heads-up for anyone interested in going to Jetty Island (Everett, WA) -- the free ferry rides end after this weekend. After that, you have to find your own form of water transport!

It's a great spot for swimming, building sand castles, and enjoying a beach. Today, while we were out there doing some cache maintenance, we saw many harbor seals, herons, and other water birds.

Oh, you can also get 4 caches on the island:

Jetty Walk

Return to Jetty Island

Peanut Butter & Jetty

Peanut Butter SAND-wich

And two near the parking area:

The Equator

Rocky Road

If you do happen to get to PB&Jetty any time soon, we'd appreciate getting better coordinates for our cache page. We had an emergency --two tiny little toddlers who had lost their moms and found us instead -- that kept us from getting our readings. The cache page has very thorough directions to get you there (it's just a few yards away from the original hiding place), plus a spoiler photo.

FWIW, I give Jetty Island my full endorsement!!! I went last Sunday and was amazed how cool a place it is. Catching the ferry is a snap -- there was no problem catching the first ferry that left 15 mins after we got there. Coming back was a snap too. Tons of times available for the return trip.

The beach is superb. Acres and acres of very flat sandy beach. It's a pleasure at low and high tide. The water was extremely warm for Puget Sound -- must have been 70+ degrees.

As I was watching my little guys -- I only had time to nab one cache -- EraSeeks. I may head out again on Saturday with the family to snag the rest and take advantage of the ferries before they stop.

BTW, if you do go this weekend, in addition to getting better coords for CachinCin's cache, please also consider rescueing the travel bug I left in "Return to Jetty Island". I didn't realize how doomed she might be after the ferries have been shut down for the season!

Feeling blessed at this point in time in our lives seeings how many, many people have been out of work for much longer than 3 weeks.

Oh, and all the yard work that's been keeping me from cachin is now showing the fruits of my labor. It's turing GREEN, all those little seeds are growing!!!!

Now how could a girls life get much better, the husband goes back to work and the children are headed back to school!

Time to do some serious caching.

Looks like Myself, Dayvi, Dant, and possibly Seventh Gear, and Hydnseek are planning to go. Others are welcome to join us.

Pepper and I were wondering where all of our geocaching buddies have been of late. There are several new micros (of course) and regulars in the Redmond area, and people don't seem to be hitting them as quickly as usual.

Speaking of which...has anyone else given Check and Recheck a try? Pepper and I aren't quite sure what to make of it -- we think we've figured things correctly, but we're just not finding the silly little micro.

Well I for one have been recuperating, hobbling around like a 90 year old man for the first couple days after that hike. My poor calves just ached! Now, I'm just giving my big toes a chance to recuperate before I subject them to any real wandering around.

In the meantime, I'm pruning back my yucca plants. They're taking over the front sidewalk.

Cheers!

MB, that is one cute addition to your family! I'd be up for figuring out Check & Recheck next week, but now that school's back in session I only have Thursdays & Fridays open (and that's only when I don't have stacks of grading to do). icon_frown.gif

TL, I know what it feels like to be in recovery mode, when even your toes need a break! Been there, done that. icon_smile.gif

Thanks for all the well wishing guys and gals. The husband is home from his first day of work and well it went like the first day always does at MS when your not a FTE. No access to anything without that coveted security card.

Now on to my caching day with Cindy I only have one thing say it pulled vaccum!

Two DNF's out of three not a very good caching morning. Oh well, it happens like that sometimes.

Now I must park in front of my TV and watch the MTV vides awards.

Thanks! He's pretty sweet, but awfully skittish. We're working hard to bring him out of his shell. Chevy has been really great with him.

That sounds fine to me. I have a lunchtime hunt planned for tomorrow, and we may give it a try, but we may also choose to do the new one out by North Bend.

Gem Lake notes:

Criminal reports that NW Forest passes are required (though possibly not strictly enforced). Ever since getting dinged to the tune of $70 by the Kittitas County dork patrol for having a Sno-Park pass but not the requisite groomed trail sticker for parking at Lake Kachess, I don't take chances with these sorts of things. Anyway I have a pass, and will definitely be there. Dant does too, but I put his attendence liklihood around 60%. If you have one, please bring it.

The carpool thing should mitigate the requirement for passes. If we are short, I think we can buy a day-pass at the gas station in North Bend.

Link to comment

When we recently did a couple of caches from the Alpental parking lot, there were tickets on cars without the pass (we had ours). If you chose you can park (limited space)along the road just before the signed parking lot without the pass or leave one vehicle in the commercial area south of the interstate.

I see that a few others have been making attempts at FiendorFoe's Check and Recheck. It makes me feel better that Pepper and I are not the only ones who've posted DNFs, and that we seem to be searching the same spot as others.

Dayvi, the woman walking her dog stopped and asked us what we were up to -- she seemed curious, so we talked a bit about geocaching with her. She must walk her dog there quite often. icon_smile.gif

Donna and I were FTF for this great hike:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=86694

Got a late start...probably about 4 pm or so for the hike. Very hot out. Sure drank lots of water on way up. Trail is of good tread though and the grade isn't that bad for a 2500 ft climb to the cache at 6200 ft. Teanaway country is a must do for those who like visiting high places!!!!

Other great hikes to do are Lake Ingalls/Longs Pass, Paddy-go-Easy Pass and many others. My website, www.evergreenhiker.net, lists some of those.

Great photos -- it sure looks like you two had a fun time. What were you wearing around your neck, John? a lei?

Jeff and I were off at the Bumbershoot today, where I hopped up and down, front row/center stage for an hour and a half -- one of my favorite bands was performing, Kinky. I am now very sore, and my knees aren't going to forgive me for a while (Cindy, you might be getting too old for this...).

Earlier in the day, I did pop over to to give Check & Recheck another try. Still no luck. Dratted micro! icon_mad.gif

I'm dragging Pepper off to a geocacheless day at bumbershoot on Monday, but tomorrow Jeff and I are going to try to get a bunch of caches. I want to hit 300 on my birthday, which means I need to get 20ish in the next week and a half.

Cin

P.S. A camera from Q13 took loads of film during the concert, which ended up surprising many by being one of the big events of the day. If you're watching Q13, and they happen to show Kinky, look for the woman in the green hat wearing her CITO t-shirt. icon_smile.gif

Cin,

Sounds like you and Jeff had a great time!!! So you are a bit sore, but you've gotta have fun now and then right?

Donna and I sure had a great time. Yeah, I'm wearing a Lei...she put it on me up there. It was in the cache. Beautiful area...really didn't want to leave, but dark was looming close.

My next hike will be with Criminal and my friend John. We are going to Gothic Basin on Monday. Looking forward to that. Criminal is going for #100 up there. Anybody else that wants to go should post in the official post for that hike.

I'm so late posting this. I just had to get my 2 cents in.

This was a beauty of a hike. Although I haven't been in the mountains for some years, and yes... I was sore yesterday! I have to say this hike just showed me a peek (peak!) of the many years I spent wandering around the cascades and that time was probably the most wonderful experience of my life.

I am grateful to my friend John, who's company was a blessing.

Yes, I did find a Lei at the cache and we wore it proudly. How much fun can one have?

But what was I thinking of? Going on a hike like this with someone that calls himself evergreenhiker!? I swear... when this man gets out of eyesight I think he flying up and down the mountain tops. Whoah! I just need to break myself in more. I think.

All and all, it was one of those Glorious Days!
