soup
I have been thinking (uh-oh), If I were to put a cache in a park, How do I know if a multi cache already exists in that area. If a multi-cache doesn’t tell the final cache general location on the cache page, then how do future cache placers know if that park has an existing cache? Yeah, I know I could just try to solve every multi out there, but not everybody is adept or able to complete such endeavors. What about a generic map or excel spreadsheet that lists a park and if a cache is located within. It could be anonymous as to who placed what (just a message that something already exists). No coordinates or details just that a cache is somewhere there. My intent would be to minimize the chance that a cache placement could be potentially right next to a multi. It sounds like a lot of effort, but could save some headaches for future placers. What are your thoughts? Quote Link to comment
+Logscaler and Red
That just happened to me this last week. I checked a new cache and it is within a hundred yards of another multi stage cache. Not in a park but a large lava field scattered over several hundred acres. The second cache owner had not done the multi stage therefore had no idea the first cache was there. Sounds like you might be onto something, just up to TPTB. logscaler. Quote Link to comment
+Nurse Dave
It seems that most multicaches are done within an area where you can walk from one point to another. If you just solve any multi that starts in the park you want to put it in, I would think that would be almost 100% sure to show you if there are any close caches. If you want to solve every multi cache then you would be my hero, but I think my idea is a little more realistic and not out of line to ask a placer to do as part of the area research for a new cache. But, I'm sure you visit any caches in the general area you are going to put one in so I'm not telling you anything you don't know. ---Real men cache in shorts. Quote Link to comment
+bazzle
Hmmmm... Most of the good multis I have done do not fall that close together. Take Demonhead Flats, White Eagle II, Hidden Waterways, Hammerhead, Tour de Portlandia, Hometown Buxton (I have not done it yet, but I will and it fits here), I could go on... But this just names a few of the many out there. None of these would give you any idea that your cache is placed within 1/2 mile, let alone a few hundred feet, of their final location unless you solved them. I think soup has a valid idea, how feasible it is may be a different story. Life is as much a journey of discovery, as it is a discovery of the journey... **Namaste** Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
The only stage of a multi that needs to be worried about is the first. After that I'm not sure it matters how close stages are to other caches since you didn't know until you decided to tackle a multi anyway. Wherever you go there you are. Quote Link to comment
