+Trav'lin Two
Been looking for info to use during an upcoming presentation I have to give. Have looked all over the Groundspeak site but haven't found what I'm looking for. Probably there someplace. How many active caches are there world wide? How many active cachers are there world wide? +Touchstone
The website hit 2 million a couple of years ago: https://www.geocaching.com/blog/2013/02/2-million-geocaches-the-infographic/ I'm not sure what the current number is. It used to be on the home page, but things got kind of rearranged, so I'm not sure where they keep it nowadays. Groundspeak has never (to my knowledge) stated the number of registered or "active" users on the site. Quote Link to comment
+Trav'lin Two
The last info I have is that in Aug of '13, there was a little over 2.1 mil caches but I can't find any updates Quote Link to comment
+Ambrosia
Groundspeak just sent out an email a week ago that gave some great statistics. GEOCACHING IN THE STATS 1,056,774 geocachers found at least one geocache. 2,420,857 geocaches were logged. 233,740 new geocaches were placed. 14,815 geocaching events occurred. 32,930 geocachers helped clean up the planet at CITO Events. +Ambrosia
Sorry, those stats were just for 2016. The email said that there are 2.7 million caches worldwide. Quote Link to comment
+Ambrosia
Here is a recent blog post that talks all about some of these things, and the history of geocaching. Celebrating Geocaching’s Sweet 16! The odd thing, is the blog post says that there are over 2.8 million caches, and the email said just 2.7. Quote Link to comment
+The Jester
Premium members can just hit the magnify glass button on the search page (enter nothing) and get a total number of caches. Just now there are 2,873,261 caches. Quote Link to comment

+OwenfromKC
Cacherstats.com lists 393,792 cachers but that is only people with more than 200 finds. That number may tend to be currently more active. Active is a relative term. Edited June 5, 2016 by OwenfromKC Quote Link to comment

Active is a relative term. I was under the impression those third-party stat sites only count those participating/contributing to them. Is that not true? Quote Link to comment

Active is a relative term. I was under the impression those third-party stat sites only count those participating/contributing to them. Is that not true? Cacherstats has almost all finders with more than 200 finds (with rare exeptions). 200 because they assume interest in statistcs only after finding more than a few caches. The numbers don't differ too much from project-gc's numbers: country cacherstats.com project-gc.com (cachers with min. 200 finds, numbers for project-gc only if <10000) / cachers with min. 1 find in 2015 / proportion cachers2015 to cachers>200 1. So 383792 seems quite realistic, even though a few are missing, I would believe <1%. In areas with very few caches one can hit 200 only while traveling, so 200 might be a bit high for such areas. Last year 1,917.042 cachers had found at least one cache, this is five times the number of cachers with more than 200 finds. The proportion differs significantly depending on country. curlingfan11
A lot of new cache get published each day, and some get archived, so it's really hard to keep track. Quote Link to comment
