I am fairly new to this. I am camping and have found a mystery cache. I figured out the longitude and latitude coordinates from the puzzle. My question is: does the geocaching app allow me to put in coordinates to find this cache? I don't have an actual gps and google maps doesn't seem to work. I'm in Nebraska and its saying my coordinates are in Vermont. I know I'm not that far off. Any suggestions on how I can find this with what technology I have on hand. (Just my iPhone)

The app should show your current latitude and longitude. If you’ve solved the puzzle correctly, you have the cache coordinates. To get into the general vicinity of the cache, calculate the difference in latitude and longitude. Convert that to seconds and use about 100 feet per second for latitude and 80 feet for longitude to convert to feet. Now, take out a scaled map of the area (you do have a map…) and using those distances you just calculated, spot the approximate cache location on the map (Does that location make sense?). Go there, and then check the app for your latitude and longitude and compare it to the cache coordinates. Should be pretty close. Try walking due north or south until the latitude matches, then due east or west until the longitude matches. Then, you’ll be at the GZ.

Google Maps can work. One way to enter coords like what you see on the Geocaching site is like this: N 33 33.333, W 084 44.444

 

Type it into the search bar. You don't need to type the little symbols for "degree" and "minutes". That's the Degrees Decimal Minutes (DDD MM.MMM) format often used in handheld GPS receivers by default. Puzzle caches can have a different format, so be careful to convert coords when necessary.

 

You can type coords into an iPhone, by adding a waypoint (see Pup Patrol's helpful links). If you get the free App "Commander Compass", you can enter coords and go. Look for "Free GPS" for other ideas.

Yes, you use the Add Waypoint function to add the coordinates for the solved waypoint and then navigate to that waypoint.
