Geocache app in offline mode.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the geocache app used on smartphones has an offline mode? I cannot find a setting to change it to offline, will it change automatically if the wireless cell signal is lost?

I have an Android Samsung smartphone and already know I can download a map to be used offline in my Google Maps and as long as I have pin drops set up and saved to the carious geocache GPS coordinates I can use the Google Maps in offline mode to still search for caches and log them online later from a computer or when my phone has the signal back. But this is more cumbersome and would require pre-planning before I venture out to search for cache's. I figured if the geocache app has an offline mode it would be easier.

The official App is designed to be used online. Fancier features are included in the Premium Membership. Once paid, you can save lists of caches and pre-load map tiles at those locations, then view them offline.

You can test how things will work by switching the phone to Airplane Mode. But without saving a cache list, you get the cache that you're currently navigating to (if any), and not much else.

Other Apps allow loading map files from various sources, and often a limited number of caches.

Son-of-a-gun that works just fine when I set my device to airplane mode or turn off both mobile and wifi data. Thanks.
