+briansnat Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 Two years ago today, I found my first cache (Please don't laugh at my trade. What did I know?). I noticed the low number on it (6196) and it got me to wondering, what is the oldest, still existing cache in NJ? And does anybody recall what the first cache was? +briansnat Posted September 22, 2003 Author Posted September 22, 2003 After some poking around, I found this one. Can anybody beat it? "You can't make a man by standing a sheep on his hind legs. But by standing a flock of sheep in that position, you can make a crowd of men" - Max Beerbohm Quote

+Team DEMP Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 I could always write a quick script to go from: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=1 to http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=199 and search for "In New Jersey", but then you guys wouldn't have all this fun! +Team DEMP Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 The Artful Dodger!!! Thanks for the Cauldrons of Courage cache... I replaced the one set of coords... at least until you can replace it with what was officially there. Thanks! David Quote
+Team DEMP Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 I had time between a 2pm & 3pm meeting so I wrote a quick 16 line ASP program that went against the cache ids from 1 to 200 looking for "In New Jersey, United States". 200 - gerbiL cacHe is the lowest if you don't count archived caches. If you count archived caches the lowest would be 130 - Geocache Quote
The Artful Dodger Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 Nice one TeamDEMP! Any chance you can find out the most popular unarchived cache in NJ in the other thread? Quote
+HartClimbs Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 Watcher shows it quick - you just sort by hidden date. Great pgm. Quote
+Team DEMP Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 Can watcher bring in all of NJ caches? Or just the 1st 500 (maybe there's only 500 or less... I don't know) from a GPX query? Getting the Most popular NJ caches is possible too - I need to loop through the Hide/Seek pages for NJ caches (split into 20 per page) and then check each individual cache page and move to the next NJ page. Maybe I'll do that tonight if I have some free time. Hopefully the site owners won't be upset. Quote

With Watcher (a great piece of software) you could join them together and have a full list of NJ caches. I would take some time to tweak the gpx files but once you have it set.......well you know the rest. _________________________________________________________________________ Nobody can be so amusingly arrogant as a young man who has just discovered an old idea and thinks it is his own.
