Best way is to start finding a some and see first hand how they are made and how they are standing up to handling and the elements. Then look for ways you can improve on the design, within GC guidelines of course.

Your recent questions seem to follow the theme of, "what type of cache should I hide, and where should I hide it?" This leads me to believe that you simply haven't found enough caches yet. Once you've found more, you'll get a better idea of what containers do and don't work, what type of hiding spots do and don't work, etc.

 

As for "fake" caches, nearly anything under the sun can be faked. Here are some examples I can remember finding off the top of my head:

• Fake dog doo
  
• Fake gum
  
• Fake rocks (both the small commercially-made ones and huge custom-made ones)
  
• Fake electrical plates/electrical boxes (some of which may not be advisable)
  
• Fake bolts (of various sizes)
  
• Fake fruit/vegetables
  
• Fake plants (most often ferns and ivy, but this will vary depending on your local flora)
  
• Fake animals (both life-sized and miniaturized)
  
• Fake body parts (e.g. dismembered arm/leg)
