Wizard_Speed_Time Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Hi all, First of all, thanks for your help. I am thinking on hiding some multicaches and I would like that the geocachers have to measure the altitude in the multicaches coordinates. And then they will check that altitude in a table in order to discover the final coordinates. The question is, can I use the altitude measurement as the data to be collected in a multicache step? Thanks a lot and sorry for my writing. Picarax Quote
Touchstone Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 You can, but keep in mind that the altitude reading on a handheld GPS is not very accurate. I usually use topographic maps when it comes to figuring out altitude for a specific location. Good luck! Quote
Pontiac_CZ Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Yep, the altitude reading might vary within 10 m or even more depending on the terrain so you (your table) should count with it. Check out a cache Exit 104 - you do not have to understand the language but the CO asked cachers to measure the altitude on the cache site (in meters above the sea level) and write it in the log. Read through the logs and you'll see how much it can differ. By the way, I measured 666 m. Quote
Wizard_Speed_Time Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 Thanks a lot for your support. I guess that this type of cache is more a multicache than a mistery what that example is brilliant. Many thanks! Quote
CanadianRockies Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Yep, the altitude reading might vary within 10 m or even more depending on the terrain so you (your table) should count with it. You can help reduce this variance by providing geocachers an object, at the start of the multi-cache, on which to calibrate their altimeters. Keep in mind that not all geocachers will have altimeters available to them, so you'll be limiting the number of people who can find your cache. Quote
