Could it Newbies?

Many Geocoins never get logged and some get mad that they aren't but what's the possibility of newbie picking one up thinking it's cool swag and not knowing they are supposed to log it? The only reason I knew what Travelbug was when I found it because I had done allot of research on them beforehand.

Sure...

It happens (with newbies), but we've seen there's just as many (maybe more) that are long-time premium members.

 

How many kids you know read directions anymore?

A few of our ammo cans were grabbed because, "they thought they were supposed to re-hide it".

Maybe they believe it's the treasure in this "real World treasure hunt".

Ya it's a possibility. But all geocoins and travel bugs say trackable on geocaching.com. and there's also lots of resources for cachers. So imo yes, they may not know, but it's their fault for not learning about geocaching.

I seriously doubt itls longtime premium members. Anyone going to the effort of siging up to pay for a membership when it's strictly voluntary is not shying away from "directions".

 

Of course it's newbs. When geocaching is only a click away on your smartphone you're not going to dig deeper into the website to find out what's going on. And how many sign up for a dozen finds and walk away with a pocketful of travellers? It's hard to say. But it's not just newbs ... newbs implies unintentional errors; clueless mistakes if you will... out of ignorance. There are those who intentionally take travellers with malicious intent; maybe those are the premium members mentioned above.

 

Remember the old adage, though... never leave anything in the woods you don't expect to lose. Finding a $15 shiny trinket is just too cool to keep than play it forward.

The most notorious trackable hoarder in this hobby was a long-time premium member.

In fact, the three that only I'm aware of are/were all PMs.

Boxes (hundreds of trackables) eventually made it back to HQ to be disbursed from one.
