Connection timed out, IP address blocked

Greetings,

So here's a new problem that I've never seen before. Over the weekend I discovered that I could no longer access the geocaching.com website through my home ISP (a small local provider). They had me run a trace route which indicates a qwest node in in the northwest is the problem. The last IP in the trace log is 63.235.80.54 (dia.static.qwest.net). My ISP told me that they were most likely blocking my IP address intentionally. I then confirmed with another user on the same ISP that their access to geocaching.com is being blocked by exactly the same node. Neither of us is having problems with any other website. So my theory is that the node is either blocking a range of IP addresses which include mine and the other user (162.219.xxx.xxx), or they are blocking our ISP (208.64.79.233). I did a blacklist check on both my ISP and on my own IP and nothing came back positive.

This is very strange. I feel like I'm trying to solve a 5 star geocaching puzzle.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

Thanks!

-Jason

If you submit a request through our Help Center, we might be able to help you figure it out. You'll need to include your full IP address in the request.

Thank you. I submitted a copy of the message through Help Center, along with the full IP. I categorized it under Bug Reports. Appreciate the help!

Unfortunately, we're only able to manipulate the outbound route from our infrastructure. If you're having issues reaching us, there might not be anything that we can do. We have a clear route outbound to your ISP, currently using our BGP peer NTT. I can't directly reach your modem, but that's likely intentional and ICMP is disabled.

If you want to run MTR (or WinMTR) to www.geocaching.com (63.251.163.200), I can review it for you if you reply to the Help Center thread or want to post it here. Feel free to obfuscate the first couple hops.

Have you tried to use alternative DNS? Sometimes we see issues like this and switching from the default ISP provided DNS to Google (8.8.8.8) or OpenDNS (208.67.222.222) will do the trick.

I tried the alternate DNS option with no success. Attempts made on both a Windows 10 machine and an iPad. My MTR log is posted below. I'll follow up with my ISP as well. Thanks again for helping me out!
