Favorite caches around Niagria Falls and Finger Lakes areas

We will be vacationing in this area in a couple of weeks and was wondering if some of you local cachers could recommend some of your favorite caches in the area. We are looking for ones that take us to unique areas that we would otherwise miss. We are not at all familiar with the area so if you can suggest interesting sights to visit while there, even if they are not geocaching related, let us know. Look forward to seeing your part of the country - Team J&K of Indianapolis, IN

Niagara Falls - The Mom's Niagara Gorge series are great.

Around Buffalo - Try my Olmsted series. They are in a number of the original Olmsted parks throughout the City of Buffalo. Nothing too challenging, but some fun hides.

Will you be around in August? We're holding our NY State picnic at Sampson State Park in the Finger Lakes on August 23rd and 24th.

Though I live in Pittsburgh, I grew up in Rochester NY and consider Western NY as part of my caching territory, as I visit friends and relatives there frequently.

Please try to include a day at Letchworth State Park in your itinerary. The river gorge and waterfalls are spectacular, and there are dozens of geocaches nearby, of all difficulty levels. On our visit this month, we visited the "West Meets East" cache, which made our Top Ten Percent List (see our profile). If you search for the nearest caches to that one, you'll find all the others in and near the park. Some of the cache pages provide helpful links to websites about the park.

I hope you have a great trip!

Next time, instead of getting married, I think I'll just find a woman I don't like and buy her a house.

In the Finger Lakes area, check out the 'Bear Swamp' area just South of Skaneateles lake. Many caches in a very unique place.

Also, I have numerous caches around Buffalo and South of Buffalo. Most of them will take you to nice areas, some of them undevelopped, wild or gorgeous (pun intended).

I also recommend the caches in the Niagara gorge region (by Mr Mom & Mrs Mom). Guaranteed to 'WOW' you.

Read the logs and go with was seems appealing...

Regards,

Fabien.
