seadown
I am new to this forum, so be kind to me please !, and I hope you guys can help !. Just recently I have had an issue with clicking any off site link from my stats profile it brings up a pop up, "Hey wait! You’re about to leave Geocaching.com. Are you sure you want to do that?" and requires giving a click on okay. Well, of course I click "OK" Nothing happens ??. It worked fine a few weeks ago, so what is causing this ?. I am using a MAC and Safari as the browser. Interestingly, my other WINDOWS PC, asked the same message, but it allows the link and the redirection to the other site works, as it should! Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Alan Quote Link to comment
niraD
Yeah, unfortunately, this is intentional on the part of Groundspeak (or rather, on the part of Groundspeak's lawyers): Links and giving the okay The good news is that Lil Devil is working on a Greasemonkey script to eliminate the popup (and hopefully, to eliminate the popup's link-breaking side effects). That may actually get me to enable Greasemonkey again... Quote Link to comment
MartyBartfast
FWIW if you open the link in a new tab on Firefox it doesn't prompt you for confirmation and the link opens immediately, don't know if Safari will behave the same. Quote Link to comment
niraD
FWIW if you open the link in a new tab on Firefox it doesn't prompt you for confirmation and the link opens immediately, don't know if Safari will behave the same. That depends on how you open the link in a new tab. My preferred technique (which has worked just fine for years) is to use Command-click (or on Windows, to use Control-click). This no longer works. But Right-click > Open Link in New Tab does work, and so does middle-click. Quote Link to comment
seadown
Well thank you so much. "Right click - open new tab" worked with Safari ! Just a shame you have to do this. I worked fine up till a few weeks ago !! Regards, Alan Quote Link to comment
niraD
The "Hey wait! You don't really want to leave Geocaching.com, do you?" nag popup on profile pages still breaks the normal operation of links that occur in someone's profile. To see this, just shift-click or ctrl-click or command-click or whatever to open a link in a new tab/window. You get the nag popup, and then the link opens in the current tab/window instead. +niraD
Note that you don't get a nag popup for "internal" links (e.g., links to other geocachers' profiles, to bookmark lists, or to geocache listings). The link just silently opens in your current tab, completely ignoring the shift-click or ctrl-click or command-click that should put it in a new tab. Quote Link to comment
