Maxjackemma Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I recently took my grandkids (8 and 6) geocaching for the first time and they really had fun despite my own lack of experience (I've only gone a few times with a friend. We used my Android phone but really struggled to get the gps to work. I'd like to buy a handheld gps but have no idea where to start. Any suggestions on either a good starter gps or on using your android phone effectively? Thanks! Quote
+tallglenn Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Congrats on finding a new inexpensive, family friendly hobby! Since we don't have info on what kind of phone you are using, I would suggest a Garmin eTrex for beginners. Amazon has an eTrex 10 for about $80 right now. Not many bells & whistles but I think you will like the battery life/easy replacement of batteries over using a phone to geocache. Of course it will take a few trips to figure out how to use the GPS.
