+miminona
Hi there, We just got our first GPS. It's a refurbished Garmin Oregon 600 we bought from a US vendor, but we're in Canada. I have managed to load maps and caches for my area just fine, but when I turn it on and go to the maps it defaults to a location that is in the middle of the US with a big ? on it, and I have to scroll around to try and find my area. It also shows a bunch of waypoints in the US (near the default location I assume?) but not the waypoints from the ones I've loaded yet, and says it can't find a geocache that suits my search parameters. We have terrible satellite reception right at my house, so the most bars I've had it go to is 2. Is it just a matter of getting good satellite reception so it knows where I am or are their settings I am missing? I'd like to take it out and use it but want to get it set up properly first obviously! Quote Link to comment

You should turn it on and leave it in a place outdoors with a clear view of the sky for a while. Along with getting its position, there's a special database that it needs to load. +Walts Hunting
BTW that spot is Olathe the home of Garmin. The question mark means it hasn't got s lock yet. You still get that if you turn it off and go a couple of hundred Mikes and turn it on. Edited October 23, 2015 by Walts Hunting Quote Link to comment
