+ECplus3
This is the fifth year that I have produced a Remembrance Day geocoin. This year's coin honours the men and women who served in Afghanistan from October 2001 until March 2014. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of Canada assuming command in Kandahar province. Canada was part of a larger NATO-led and United Nations-sanctioned mission that included several NATO and other like-minded nations. Since the beginning of the mission, more than 40,000 CAF members deployed to Afghanistan, many more than once, making the military engagement there the largest deployment of CAF personnel since the Second World War. 158 CAF personnel, a Canadian diplomat, a DND contractor, a Canadian journalist who was embedded with the CAF and more than 40 United States Armed Forces members who were under Canadian command lost their lives during the mission. The coin measures 45mm (1.75") x 3mm thick. It features 3d artwork and multiple layers. There will be five different editions.
