+Betts2007
Seen this on a cache I found on Sunday and I didn't want to disturb it as I didn't know what it was so I took a picture of it as proof for my log. It has been found since than and no one has mentioned it. Let me know what you think it might be so I know for next time http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC17884_knocking-on-the-garden-gate?guid=65de602d-0b85-4787-bd51-8bba22e02a28 Quote Link to comment
+Uncle Alaska
Looks like a Laetiporus shelf or bracket fungus. Though if it is near the root of the tree it might be the fungal portion of a root disease as well. Edited July 31, 2015 by Uncle Alaska Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
Looked like a simple fungus to me too. Quote Link to comment
+jellis
Yes its a species of shelf/bracket fungus/mushroom. It's not on the cache it is under the cache. You can see the tree behind the cache where the shelf fungus is growing off of. Edited July 31, 2015 by jellis Quote Link to comment

+Betts2007
Eww I wouldn't eat it, guess I'll need to pack some gloves for things I'm not sure about Quote Link to comment
GPS-Hermit
Add it to your collection of mushroom type pictures - I would remove it from the cache after taking the picture! Mushrooms pop up pretty quickly! Quote Link to comment
+niraD
Eww I wouldn't eat it, guess I'll need to pack some gloves for things I'm not sure aboutI wouldn't worry about touching it, but I certainly wouldn't eat a mushroom that hasn't been verified by a local wild-mushroom expert. We have a poisonous mushroom in this area that looks a lot like an edible mushroom that grows elsewhere, with the inevitable cases of mushroom poisoning when non-locals see what they think is an edible mushroom. I think I have a new geocaching term: Mushroom cache. The log is mush and there's no room. Love it! Quote Link to comment
