I've just started an account here and thought I would say hi.

 

I'm a GPS user but I'm not a geocacher... or at least I've never tried my hand at geocaching. I'm a photographer (professional commercial photographer / amateur travel photographer) and purchased a Garmin Etrex 30 as a way of creating tracklogs so that I could add coordinates to my photographs when I got home. It helps, especially with travel photography as knowing the exact location where a photo was taken helps you to tell the story of that photo later, and it can be difficult to work out where a photo was taken, when it was in a foreign city and you don't get the chance to look through the photos until a week or so later.

 

I've become interested in the tracklogs for their own sakes though, and also in the idea of having the map on my device. I've always been interested in maps and cartography so I've started to collect tracklogs whenever I visit somewhere interesting (not just foreign holidays) just as a way of adding to the story of my visit, and am using Ordnance Survey and Open Street Map data to create my own maps, incorporating the tracklogs.

 

I decided to join this forum because it seemed like the most active place for GPS users, even if it is geared towards a hobby I'm not participating in.
