BassoonPilot Posted April 10, 2003 Author Posted April 10, 2003 Okay, clearly the thread has run its course. From your comments and suggestions, I have learned that rather than being undesirable, spoilers in logs are actually desirable and are preferred by the majority of respondents. Likewise, the majority of cache owners who responded think spoilers are "swell," as long as they cause more people to visit their caches. Thanks for the input. Quote

I agree, we're working on a head scratcher or two for the Cheesequake picnic, so let's see what happens with that. quote:Originally posted by Mopar:... Might I suggest we get Team Epitome to hide anew cache, and the first finder wins? I would also like to see Team Epitome place a few more caches ... maybe that can place a $20 in the cache for the first finder to win. Quote

Because people around here don't bother with them. My one puzzle cache, and it isn't a hard one, is one of my least visited caches. For the most part, the only visitors have been the local hardcores. Being that it's easily accessable and in a popular park, it should have a lot more visits. The only reason I can figure is because people don't want to go through the trouble of solving the puzzle. I learned that people who don't like spoilers, don't read the logs before going out. Also that many cache owners don't mind little hints in the logs, but do have a problem with dead giveaways. Has everyone seen the Jeep Wrangler commercial where Jenny writes her coordinates on a napkin? I wouldn't mind spoiling her cache!! Quote

But I'd think twice before attempting it. She hands out coordinates on napkins to strangers in bars? I bet Jenny's been "logged" more times than my ex-wife. Actually, I'm hoping Mopar will give us some links to some of these puzzle caches from the Left Coast - might give us some ideas. Quote

Sorry, I just haven't seen anything out here that comes close to some of the 4-5 star difficulty puzzle caches of guys like Fractal, FizzyMagic, Kablooey or TEAM KFWB, just to name a few. I wil probably never get out to actually find any of these caches, but I've spend many a night just trying to solve the puzzles in some of these guys caches. Just by example, Ransom Note is considered easy by west coast standards, only a 3.5 star. Maybe I'm slow, but it took me 2 evenings to work it out. martmann Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 On my second cache hunt I posted a did not find that hinted the cache was magnetic in the log (it isn't magnetic any more, container has been changed) and the cache owner sent me a nice email saying that she encrypted my log because it gave away the hint ('think magnetic'), and that she would decrypt it if I edited out the hint. No problem, it's her cache I edited it. I posted the fact that it was magnetic in the log, because I thought the 'warning' above the log meant it was ok to post spoilers in the log. I have since come to think that warning is there because, the log entry shows up as soon as I post it (or do only I see it until the owner ok's it?) and may have spoilers that the cache owner hasn't seen yet, and can't do anything about. Either way, Now I encrypt anything I think might spoil, and let the cache hunter choose to decrypt if they want. Even then I don't log any givaways. Would that bother you BassoonPilot, or would you rather no spoilers be logged encrypted or not? I'm still new, so I really don't know. _________________________________________________________ If trees could scream, would we still cut them down?
