Enabling an Archived Cache

Hello,

I have several caches I’ve had to archive do to medical conditions which wouldn’t allow maintenance. Fortunately, I’m now able to cache again :D and I have a question.

Would it be preferred to Re-Enable an archived cache (in same location) or create a NEW cache?

Note: under Admin tools on the cache page, there is a link for ENABLE

Thanks….mrsr71

I would email your local Reviewer to be sure they understand what's going on. They will need to re-review the cache to be sure it still meets the current guidelines.

I did that first and received no response

How many days have you waited for a reply? Give them a couple days before getting too upset. As a finder, I always appreciate a new hide. If the old version was well liked and meets guidelines, I'd personally go with that option. The choice really is yours. Of course, there's always the possibility that someone has placed another hide within the .10 mile area of your archived hide and it wouldn't be allowed either way.

Yep. The volunteer reviewers try to give new caches their first review within a week. Other business (including unarchiving old caches) can take longer.

3.18. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache by the owner is supposed to be a permanent status. That is why only the site administrators and community volunteer reviewers have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances.

However, if you accidentally archived it, please contact the reviewer who originally published your geocache with the geocache name, GC Code and the explanation for unarchiving it. You'll find a link to the reviewer's profile at the bottom of your geocache page. You may also visit www.geocaching.com/help in cases where you are unable to reach the correct reviewer.

For any geocache to be unarchived, it must first meet the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

As suggested, you'll have to contact a reviewer for any caches that are archived, but as a point of clarification:

You can *enable* a cache that has been disabled but only a reviewer can *un-archive* a cache that has been archived. Keep in mind that the reviewer will re-review the caches are there could be proximity issues with any caches that were placed after your geocachers were archived.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll just place & submit new caches in the old locations as none have been placed near (.10/mile) since being archived. I'll double check before submitting.

For the record, I haven't received any email from you ;)

I've Reviewed a number of your Listings in the past, so feel free to send me the GC#'s or links to the Listings you're interested in Unarchiving. It would save you a bit of time, rather than going through the forms again, but it's really up to you.

Good to hear that you're on the mend.
