Who wants Geo Coins?

Crusso

Recommended Posts

I just had these laid out by a company that makes chips for all the big casinos:

http://www.pokerchips.com/proof/LOGOS/7729.jpg

These are printed double sided. Geocache logo on one side & globe logo on the back w/the dot com address.

Overall size is 1 5/8". These are a heavy chips, not cheap plastic material. Same as used in casinos. Cost is $1.10 each, plus shipping of $3-$4. Problem is they need a several hundred piece initial order plus art charges. They really are gorgeous & I wondered if anyone wants to go in on the order with me. I'll order them & ship them to anyone who wants some. I am not charging anything extra for them as I am using the logo & I know it's only for private non-profit use per Jeremy. I'll provide a copy of the invoice to anyone that wants proof. I can order them in any one specific color as shown or in mixed batches. Please email me as I'd like to put an order in. I'll accept orders for any quantity wanted then see what I get as a total. This graphic is the proof graphic.

Email me at IMF16@aol.com

Chris

Crusso,

Thanks for doing the legwork on this.

Before I make a commitment, I was just curious as to how many I'd need to commit to. I may be interested in, say, 20 or so, but not if I have to buy 50. At this point, you may not know the answer to this yourself - I realize it depends on the number of repsonses you get. Let me know after you hear from a few more people.

I like the body color DG Green, and the back design that is just one globe. Seems a "cleaner" design.

EDIT: I was poking around (pun intended) that site, Crusso, and I notice they have a familiar frog as one of the available designs .... icon_biggrin.gif I vote for THAT one! icon_razz.gif he he he

Ok folks, Here's how it looks so far:

I'm placing the order.

Delivery takes about 4-5 weeks. I'll send them out to whoever wants them. Right now based on interest generated, we are in the $1.10 per coin rate. I'll put the order in on Mon to see if I get any more interest over the weekend. Email me for particulars on where to send the checks.

Oh, by the way. Since these are genuine chips, not plastic tokens and they are screen printed, then sealed, it is NOT recommended to leave them sitting under water as in an open SCUBA cache. The company says they should last a lifetime in normal usage and can be cleaned/washed, just not to leave them submerged for long periods of time.

Ok folks, Here's how it looks so far based on interest:

CT Trampers 50 asst

BP 50 asst

Orange 40 (20@ orange/green)

Nik (?) 40 asst

Dekaner 20 asst

Miss Jenn 20 asst

Geoscouter 20 asst

Looks like with mine that gives us about 400 for the initial order. If I get some other definites, I'll decrease the price accordingly. I do need to "see the green" as they say so please email me for info on where to send the checks. anyone with any concerns, please feel free to call me on my cell. 914 830 7742

That's pretty neat Crusso. Good work. I am toying with a SCUBA diving cache and these may work out well with my waterproof needs What colors are you getting? I like the green color and the the globe flip-side.

In Dutch Springs? Last time I was there the visibility was three feet. I don't think my GPS is that waterproof. Good luck though I would definitly look for it.

I am not a teacher: only a fellow-traveller of whom you asked the way. I pointed ahead, ahead of myself as well as you.

Good call.

I was trying to come up with fun suggestions you could consider, but all my feeble brain could come up with were these:

- it's all around you (pun on "round")

- OR look around you

- What I am really doing when it looks like I am walking in the woods looking intently at my cell phone doesn't fit the space icon_biggrin.gif

- I tried to come up with a pun on chip or poker but all the ones I came up with were irrelevant to geocaching icon_wink.gif

I prefer Orange and green chip with black stripe but black with color stripe is okay too. Whatever make your life easier. Appreciate the effort.

Assorted, whatever makes sense to give me. I'd be happy even if they all showed up and were the same color.

I plan to use them as special prizes to encourage more people to visit my caches, so I don't really care what color they are.

I would like to echo the question if you accept paypal, otherwise I'll drop your check in the mail this weekend.

Truthfully, I haven't had a chance to look into it. This small chip order I put together has turned into "One of those projects". & my work sched has been hectic. I'd rather just trust people to send me checks. I'll divide out the chips on a first come...first served basis. If I have to order another batch I will. The chips will take 4-5 weeks from Mon. so if I get enough response quickly I can put another order in right after & still have them in a similar amt of time.

Nice idea! I see that you are ready to order, but I do have a question. If you print all the chips the same, won't they be less collectible then they would be if they were all different? Could the back be left blank so that the name of the cache or the coordinates could be added as they are placed in caches? Wouldn't that make geocachers want them more? There must be a type of pen that would be somewhat permanent that could be used. Just an idea...

The idea was to do these as inexpensive but neat cache trinkets, not so much for any collectability factor. I originally invisioned buying the initial lot & sending them out to cachers who might want to do thier own up in the future using my artwork which is already paid for. The only problem is not many cachers want to invest in an order of 300 chips with thier own back logo! I could have the backs left blank but as the chips are actually sealed with a coating, I don't think they could be written on.

Since I've been talking to the company, they will allow me to do changes to the back of coins with a minimum of 100 pieces of one color, since I already paid an art fee. So, if anyone is willing to commit to 100 of one color I could get the back wording or logo (provided it's a stock logo they have or art charges apply again)changed for them. Price would be about 1.15-1.20 per chip.

Get yourself a type of pen called a "sharpie". It writes on anything. Even poker chips - I had one from Vegas lying around and I just tried. It worked.

All of this sounds great, Crusso. I definitely want some....at least 20 or 30.

My question to you is this: what can we do to make this easier on you? You've undertaken a tremendous burden under the guise of being a "nice guy". Let us know what we can do to help.

Ok, here's how it stands since I was away from my PC for a couple of days.... I have a few spots left for chip orders. Anyone wants any please let me know. I can do custom printing for a minimum of 100 chips of 1 color. Someone called my cell for info but the message was garbled. Please email or call me back.

Ok, I only have a few unfilled spots left.

Anyone wants any please email me soon. Chips should be arriving by the end of July. Contact at the company says they came out really nice. (Of course I wouldn't expect them to say they look like crap!) icon_biggrin.gif

listen, crusso, when the chips come in, i will come up and visit you in westchester and pick them up. i will take mine out and pay you. i wil then take the rest and put them in a large tupperwear and go cache them in central jersey somewhere. whoever is closest to the new cache and is on the list for chips will have to find a way to get the cache stashed near them, and so on. as far as you getting paid, i think snail mail will work out better, unless you dont mind waiting forever. icon_wink.gif
