+Andromeda321 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Hi guys, I'm doing a talk this Friday at Amsterdam Nerd Nite on geocaching, and did the run through yesterday with the organizers. Should be a fun talk! But they had an idea that on the last slide for the Q&A session I put a picture of a treasure chest or similar as lots of people go for the "treasure" angle when first hearing about it (even tho obv that's not why people stay). So I thought it would be more fun to put a picture of a geocache that is modeled like a treasure chest. I mean, surely this exists somewhere, but Google doesn't give me too many cache-specific ones. Anyone know of one? Thanks! Quote
+Ambrosia Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Well, there's always the Geocaching HQ one. Quote
Keystone Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Check out the gallery for Plateau Pirate Treasure in the Seattle area. The "doubloons" in the outer treasure chest hid an ammo box inside. Quote
+Zepp914 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I found GC1NJWT in West Virginia. Only one of the photos shows the top of the box though. The swag and stuff is available when you open it, but to find the log you needed to find a secret compartment. It was really well done. Quote

+msrubble Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Evil Queen's booty. First picture. Pirates Bounty. As I recall. No photos, though. Quote
Blue Square Thing Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 http://coord.info/GCH1B2 Tom's Treasure Chest - a lovely old cache which is a proper treasure chest in a lovely spot. Lots of good pics. Quote
+jellis Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Tattletales Dead Mans Chest Don't worry the image does not give away the cache. There is a puzzle to open it. Quote
+Andromeda321 Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 Thanks all! I really like the Temple of Doom one in particular. I think it could work, just make an Indiana Jones reference. Quote
+BigLinc16 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 My halloween themed multi cache has a custom Halloween treasure chest painted for halloween with spiders and such on it. I think treasure chest caches are pretty cool to find just for something a little different. Nothing beats a good old ammo can though. Quote
+BBWolf+3Pigs Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 The Emerald Storm in Rhode Island. Ties into the history of a real pirate. Quote
knowschad Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Just found this through a Google search: http://www.seattletimes.com/business/treasure-hunters-lured-to-tourist-destinations-with-geocaching/ The caption reads: "Eric Schudiske, of Groundspeak, shows one of the largest geocaches out of the 1.8 million in the world that it lists. It’s a chest in the lobby of the company’s headquarters." Quote
+Ambrosia Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I forgot about VIEW CARRE '. It looks like the container was changed in the last year or two, but if you go back a few pages in the gallery you'll see the pictures of the treasure chest. Quote
+cerberus1 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Fun cache that just didn't seem to fare well for the area The salty dog. We gave a larger one away to a cacher. CJ was gonna designate me for the maintenance (wooden box outdoors) and I said no way. They decided it was too nice for outside too, and it's a toy box for their kids now. Quote
+NYPaddleCacher Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I forgot about VIEW CARRE '. It looks like the container was changed in the last year or two, but if you go back a few pages in the gallery you'll see the pictures of the treasure chest. I had never looked at photos for View Carre before but now realize that I attended a conference in 2004 in the building shown in the "spoiler picture of cache location". Unfortunately that was three years before I started geocaching. Quote
