We fly to the Ukraine on Thursday and we wanted to Geocach in the area for an article. However, we don't know how to geocach!!!!!!!!!! Help :(

Is there anyone out there that could save the day and communicate with us about geocaching in the area?

Thanks

Alex

There are no geocache containers ("physical caches") within many kilometres of Pripyat and Chernobyl, which makes sense. So, this is not the best place to learn about how to hunt for a geocache. There are more geocaches in Kyiv.

In Pripyat, there is only this earthcache, which requires using a Geiger counter and making other observations about the effects of radiation on the soil there. An earthcache is a special type of geocache that focuses on a geology lesson. It does not have a cache container for you to find.

Hi Key thanks for the reply. Yes that is the cache we are after. We think we will have a Geiger counter.

Just read the earthcache description and follow the instructions after "To log this cache". In order to "email" the cache owner the requested information click on the cache owners name (The Bennies) just under the name of the earth cache. It looks like it's fairly straightforward.

You don't mention whether or not you have a GPS. You should be able to do the earthcache without one just by going on the required tour. As Keystone mentioned it looks like there area fair amount of geocaches in Kyiv. Even if you don't have a GPS it looks to me that if you read the descriptions carefully (including the hints) and print out a map of some of the locations that there are several that you could find.
