Ammo cans

reasonably priced

would that be an oxymoron?

Joking aside... they used to be cheap, really. But I fear the true days of "surplus" are long gone...

Fact is... many younger geocachers think of these junky plastic ammo carriers as "ammo cans".

Good luck in your searching.

Strongly recommend you DON'T mention the fact it's an Ammo Can in the cache description.

Sadly, they have a habit of disappearing... :(

A few months back I found two ammo can caches and both were secured by heavy chains and padlocks. Neither description identified the type of container. I won't say where or when these finds were in case a thief is reading this, and anyway unless they happen to live within 20 km of either cache it will probably be cheaper to buy an ammo can than to steal one :) .

I bought 1 of 2 that were on sale in an antique shop (of the slightly flea-market type!) in Lechlade. £10. I'd imagine places like that, plus car-boots, are good options. Might go back for the other one one day - but have only just been to Boots to scrounge some film pots so I need to hide them in the middle of a wood 50m off the path first

In an ivy covered tree, no doubt.... B)

Back in the day, it was a decent walk and very little ivy on the tree...

Now-a-days the tree is more ivy than tree, and there's no decent walk and no view...

Beakers from wilko are my favoured rural container. The lip below the screwtop lid makes them ideal to tie to trees (not saying what height!)

Update - Oxford army surplus has piles of ammo cans at £8.
