These are ABCDEF. The final cache is a very short walk away at 51 08. B (B-D) (C-E) 01 48.(A-B+C) D (E-D) which when entered into my etrex30 sends me to kings sombourne 20+ miles away this is what is happening when ever i do a church micro or have to manually put coords in can someone please tell me where im going wrong my finds would be a few higher as i have had this problem on at least 5 occasions thanks for reading any help welcome Edited December 10, 2014 by TheShaws Quote Link to comment
Pup Patrol
ok where do i start im having problems entering coords for church micros getting the clues ect is fine working them out is fine but when i enter them onto my etrex 30 im always around 30 miles away i will give an example of a real cm N 51° 08.649 W 001° 48.370 is the coords for the cm (GC1VEX6) You need to go to the listed co ordinates where you will see a pole with a white sign attached with six numbers on. These are ABCDEF. NUMBERS ARE 861118 The final cache is a very short walk away at 51 08. B (B-D) (C-E) 01 48.(A-B+C) D (E-D) which i make out to be n51 08.650 w001 48.310which which when entered into my etrex30 sends me to kings sombourne 20+ miles away this is what is happening when ever i do a church micro or have to manually put coords in can someone please tell me where im going wrong my finds would be a few higher as i have had this problem on at least 5 occasions thanks for reading any help welcome http://coord.info/GC1VEX6 When I plunk your corrected coordinates (which I also get) into Google Maps, I get a location that one needs to go southeast from St Andrew's Church, then go north up The Dr. Is your etrex set to the correct datum? Help Center → Other → Conversions 1.3. WGS-84 and HDD(D)° MM.MMM Datum and Format http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=208 Why do we use WGS-84 and HDD(D)° MM.MMM Datum and Format? Most GPS receivers are set coming out of the box with WGS-84 and HDD(D)° MM.MMM Datum and Format. Using this setting will be less likely to confuse new GPS owners. B. Quote Link to comment
+MartyBartfast
I'm guessing you're using the wrong co-ordinates format. You should have the format set to ddd mm.mmm, therefore entering the co-ords as n51 vw.xyz w001 vw.xyz; but if it was set to ddd.ddddd and you're entering the coords as n51.vwxyz w001.vwxyz (note the difference) then it would give you a position about 20 miles away near Stockbridge. You can change the co-ordinate format on the setup screen somewhere. FWIW I've obscured the numbers above as it could allow someone to complete that CM without visiting the church, so you might want to obscure the numbers in your original post too. +Gitchee-Gummee
No... that distance between those coordinates is only 88 ft -- as the crow flies. That said, it is very poor form to post coordinates, figures and formulas such as this asking for help. You can ask for assistance, but not utilizing the formula/coordinates from the cache itself.
