rhys&rosy
Hello, I'm planning to go to Bath at the weekend and propose to my girlfriend. She's expecting our baby so it won't be a huge surprise but I still want to do something romantic. Neither of us has been to Bath before so she'd be blown away if we find a cache with a proposal in it. Is there anyone in or very near Bath who would be willing to find a cache and put a little message in it, and let me know which one it is? It should ideally be one of the easy to find ones, can be in the city or just outside. We're fairly new to this so not sure if this kind of thing is allowed, but I'd be very grateful if someone could help. Thanks Quote Link to comment
cerberus1
Kind of a cart before the horse thing (you show no finds on your account). Might have been a good idea if you found a couple hides before this weekend. Using a GPSr or an app? If an app, which one? One app in particular won't allow you to find anything other than traditionals. - Folks need to know this if they're gonna help. Quote Link to comment
Gitchee-Gummee
Yes, "fairly new to this" would be an understatement. Being this weekend, I fear that you haven't the time to make those arrangements > • Locate a local Bath geocacher (probably most important); • Make them aware of the time you will be out (wouldn't want it discovered by an unknowing geocacher, beforehand); • (Learn) and make use of a GPSr or phone app before looking for that cache In all, it is a great idea... I dunno if you can pull it off though, with the time remaining. Quote Link to comment

rhys&rosy
Thanks for the replies! I probably should have added I created this account today as we usually just use hers since my phone died at one point. we've been out on 4 or 5 occasions and found caches in places like Bournemouth and in the Cotswolds. I re downloaded the grounds peak app, the one you pay for. And we'll be out late morning Saturday onwards around Bath. I realise its a bit late but thought it would be worth a go... Try looking on the geocaching map in Bath, going through a few cache pages (preferably ones with pictures so you can see the location first) and then contacting the owner directly through their profile. Personally, I'd contact 4/5 regular cachers with high numbers and a very recent log in and let them know you've sent it to more than one so they don't feel you're wasting their time if somebody says yes before them. +thehoomer
Could you seek out the nearest cache to where you are staying, sneek out and put a note in it yourself? Providing you went to find the cache with your girlfiend soon after, this may work. Lovely thought though and I hope she says 'yes'. Congratulations on the baby too. Enjoy your stay in Bath, its a wonderful place . Quote Link to comment
redsox_mark
I am in Bath and willing to help. My own caches in the city are about 1.5 miles from the centre, and require a little walk at least on a footpath. Actually there are a couple which you can do as a park and grab. The good thing about them is they don't get found much, so unlikely someone would find the note before you even if I put it there now. Alternatively I could put a note in someone elses cache closer to the centre. I'll send you a message. Quote Link to comment

TheOldfields
HI Redsox, if you like you can direct to one of ours also, I think you have found all of ours in the centre, if that is of help. Congrats on bot accounts, baby and marriage. Quote Link to comment
redsox_mark
A quick update - I've partnered with TheOldfields and have hidden 2 messages - one in a cache of mine and one in a cacke of TheOldfields. So a primary and a backup. Hope all goes well tomorrow when it should be found. Quote Link to comment

rhys&rosy
It worked - she said Yes! It was a total surprise as well. A great place for a proposal cache too, especially with the sun out and all the autumn leaves on the trees. Although the moment I went down on one knee was behind some bushes in a park haha. Thanks for all the suggestions and help, we had a brilliant weekend in Bath. And Kudos to redsox_mark and TheOldfields for making it happen - thank you again Quote Link to comment
