email problems?

I do not receive any notification mails from Waymarking today.

I have submitted several waymarks today but did not get any submission mail. One of the waymarks was into one of my categories. But I did not receive an officer mail as well.

The mails have not been catched at my spam filters. My email works!

Does anybody else has the same problems?

About the emails: We are getting confirmations of our new submissions, confirmations of new waymarks to review, Group Vote Called, and emails from other waymarkers/geocachers, spam and declines.

However, we are NOT getting any approvals. Is this because our mailer is busted?

Again today ...

Today I do not receive any email from Waymarking.

I have submitted several waymarks but no submission email was received.

I have also not received any notification email within my categories for new waymarks.

But I have received emails from geocaching.com

Anyone else with mail problems? Or is it only me?

No, it's not. I still have yet to receive any email notifications. What's more, I have about 12 new waymarks submitted in several categories, and no idea if they've even been received by the reviewers let alone approved etc. It is now going on the third day of no emails. Any other Canadians with similar problems?

I have opend a bug report at the official Groundspeak help system and asked for help.

This is what I wrote:

Hello Groundspeak!

We need help at Waymarking.com.

The email system is completly broken some days ago.

This issue has been reported in the Waymarking forum in the last days from several waymarkers all around the globe.

But it has not been fixed yet.

Please help us! We need notification emails and the possibility to get in contact to each other.

I know we do net receive much support by Groundspeak. But we have been be promized by Groundspeak that important technical problems will be solved. And this is one of those important problems.

Thanks for your support!

Best regards from Germany

Tante.Hossi

I hope someone at Groundspeak will help us and fix the email system.

I have received an answer from Groundspeak support.

Thank you for contacting us and for your interest in Waymarking. In order to support the rapid community growth of Geocaching.com in the past couple of years, it has been necessary to shift previously dedicated resources from Waymarking to Geocaching. Unfortunately, at this time we are only able to provide limited technical support. Please try posting your question in the Waymarking forums. These forums are monitored and can usually provide you with the best support.

Sorry that we can't be of more help at this time.

I would say the answer is as expected - but not as wished.

So this was my second try:

Thanks for your responce. But I'm a bit disappointed about the standard text on the topic of Waymarking.

We active waymarkers know that there is less support because of the rapid community growth of Geocaching.com in the past couple of years. We notice that every day!

But this is an important technical problem at Waymarking.

The messageing system is taotally broken. It is very difficult to play the game of Waymarking now.

I would like to ask Groundspeak for a developer or an administrator to look at the issue.

My guess is that a hard disk of the server has become full/run out of memory. So this would be easy to solve.

I repeat: Please help us!!

Since the mail problem this week there are also other problems on the Waymarking site.

See your Profile Page/statistics:

Waymarks Posted Per Month & Cumulative Posts Per Month not showing anymore.

Some category icons are gone.

Sometimes they are showing and a few hours later they are gone again.

Try today to mail BK-Hunters by the geocaching site and they responce to me with a friendly reply

So that works to get contact with another Waymarker but its not the way it should be.

Tante.Hossi, We have recently renewed our Premium Membership. We very, very rarely geocache anymore and in our case a PM would not be necessary.

Though I agree Geocaching is huge in comparison to Waymarking, but is this growth a true reflection when considering how many ex-geocachers there are across the world. There are many reasons, however the primary ones are: "Got bored", "Lost interest" and so on...

Every time someone enrolls that adds one more to the count. But 5 could have quit too. So do the numbers reflect the actual number of active geocachers, it is very unlikely. So is BK-Hunters part of the grand total, probably. But as far as Geocaching, we are one of those that just lost interest.

Yikes, this is not looking good. I sort of shifted away from Waymarking in the last year - I'm concerned about putting effort into writing pages on a website with an uncertain future. I know there is the promise that Groundspeak will not one day suddenly shut down Waymarking in the same fashion that Garmin did with their failed geocaching site. But slow death by a thousand unresolved issues and complete lack of support is not really all that much better. I'm just starting now to get around to writing up many of those waymarks. But this makes me again consider if this is a wise use of time. This isn't a post to slam Groundspeak, just me stating my reaction to what I read above. and yes, I'm hear because I submitted three waymarks today and nen was approved, all without email notifications.

Groundspeak is aware of the problem. The initial fix that was tried was not successful. It has been escalated however it probably will not be fixed until early next week.

Gee, awfully sporting of them to tell us. A simple post here would have sufficed, instead of the usual 'dog & pony' show...
