+Corfman Clan
On my profile page, the "List Newest Caches in <State>" no longer appears. It seems to have disappeared with the 30 Sept. site update. I for one used this link frequently and would appreciate it being added back. Quote Link to comment
Keystone
Hello Corfman Clan, Please see the active discussion of this change, which is going on in the current Release Notes thread. It's fine to have a separate thread here, as the life of suggestion threads tends to be longer than the cycle of a Release Notes thread. Quote Link to comment
Pup Patrol
Please return the "List newest in xxx" to my profile page. It was ultra-convenient and useful. The completely useless "Your GPS" section is still there, for some unknown reason. Wouldn't it make more sense to remove something useless instead of a search function that is convenient, quick and helpful? B. Quote Link to comment
Moun10Bike
This feature will not be returning. See my explanation here. For full transparency, the link was not supposed to be removed until the profile overhaul that is underway was complete, but it was accidentally eliminated prematurely. Note that the "Your GPS" setting will also be removed with the upcoming overhaul. Quote Link to comment

From the explanation: At that time, users will not have mailing address settings listed in their profile anymore, so the link as it existed on the page would become less and less relevant. I'm sorry, but that doesn't even begin to make sense to me. How does overhauling my profile change the relevance of having a link to a list of the newest caches in the state I live? That link was built off of the state you had selected in the mailing address on your profile. That information is going away in the profile overhaul, as it is populated by only a fraction of users and is often out of sync (and confused) with home coordinate settings. In the overhaul, home coordinates are being made more intuitive and accessible. Quote Link to comment

Just curious what data are going to be used to populate the state/country for a new cache someone creates and why wouldn't that be used for the newest cache link? Quote Link to comment

In the overhaul, home coordinates are being made more intuitive and accessible. I just observed that "change home coordinates" has been changed into "change home location" which I regard as unfortunate. I definitely do not regard the coordinates I provided as my home location. Years ago I have filled in my home town and/or country for location (and address on the profile page). The coordinates I provided are of course not the coordinates of the house in which I live, but just somewhere in the greater area. I hope that the new formulation will not drive many more cachers into giving away their precise home coordinates. In my opinion, the fact that some users use different information for location and their home coordinates does not come from any confusion whatsoever but is intended to use the search for new caches or the nearby search in the intended manner. Living close to the border one might want to use the newest search in a different state/country than the one one lives in. Certainly all searches can still be done via advanced search, but in a less convenient manner in particular for those using many different computers where they cannot bookmark the search commands on all of them. Those who try to input coordinates in a form where a country/state is required or vice versa will always be confused. But is this really your target audience? Quote Link to comment
+Viajero Perdido
This feature will not be returning Does that mean bookmarked copies of the now-missing link, of the form: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?state_id=63 will stop working shortly? Please let that keep working! Your power users are agonizing here in your quest to attract phone-toting newbies. Throw us a bone, please. +Mineral2
There's an easy solution to this: create a Pocket query with an area that encompasses your state, restrict it to your state, and restrict it to caches placed in the past week/month/year. You can save it, but not run it. Preview the results and sort by date created to see the newest listings, or view the results on a map to see where the most recent caches are. If you rely on that list to get updated on new publishings, then maybe you ought to set up a notification so that as new listings get published, you'll know about it in an e-mail. There are much better solutions than the generic state list that already exist and make better use of your custom preferences. Quote Link to comment
+Wagonmaker
The main issue is that the link was convenient and quick. Obviously, there are other methods of retrieving the same information, but they are longer and more cumbersome, especially if you don't live in the United States. I don't want another bookmark cluttering up my browser and I don't want to use five or six clicks, and two scroll-down menus, with related wait times between each. I want the convenient link to be re-instated on the page that is designed for that purpose: my account page. Frankly, the blanket statement that the link will not be returning, when clearly it is desired by users, is concerning for me. If there was another feature coming down the pipe that will refine home coordinates and "replace" this link, then the link should have stayed until the new features were in place (and should still be re-instated until that time as well). +fbingha
.. and why don't you just have the function figure out the state that the home coordinates are set in and feed that into the link. Quote Link to comment
+jellis
Most of the other links are now locked. I too miss it. You can see everything instead of one type at a time. You can see events further in advance. A lot quicker to access. Quote Link to comment
