Filling Inboxes that don't belong to BruceS

This Jawhawk Waymarker is off to the land of Dixie starting next week. Be aware that I'm going to be hitting the Chickamauga Battlefield with lots and lots of waymark visits since it was closed up tighter than a drum last year during the Government shutdown!

...and don't even think your inbox is escaping Benchmark Blasterz with those new Vicksburg waymarks I approved! LOL! I'm really looking forward to getting my Waymarking blog updated with some very cool new waymark pictures and other shots from this trip to Gulf Shores. ...and yes, if I can find a BruceS waymark or two to visit, that would make me an even happier waymarker!

Now, if I can JUST get the rest of my backlog of pictures written up!

Backlog? What back log?

I still have pictures from my April trip to Arkansas I haven't processed... I guess I'm waiting for the nice COLD Kansas days to go through them. I am looking forward to seeing a decent Kansas Memorial on a Battlefield (Missionary Ridge), not like the awful wrought iron thing my state has on the Vicksburg Battlefield...

My backlog is DONE as of yesterday :) It only took me a MONTH to wash through 4 days of Waymarking photos. :P

Vicksburg had a ton of MS historic markers and a spattering of US NRHP, with a few benchmarks and memorials scattered around. We saw opportunity in categories :) so we created over 200 *new* waymarks on our trip to Vicksburg in these categories (* = 1st WM in this category in Vicksburg).

Vicksburg is a deeply historic town but woefully under-waymarked, thus the carpet-bomb!! :) And oh by the way - despite the long list above, we left a lot of good meat on the bones of that town for new waymarks and new categories as well.

Tom -- Have a safe trip and I look forward to your visits on our WMs!

Tom -- Have a safe trip and I look forward to your visits on our WMs!

I've started adding to the Vicksburg waymarks - I hit several of the monuments that were outside the the park that were originally inside (South Carolina Monument). I am in the process of filling your inbox now as I writeup my pictures. I actually broke even at the Ameristar (where I stayed). I got a great picture of a tug coming up the river with several barges at sunset last Thursday. I'm also getting several of the Regiment markers - especially the Ohio ones as they are my favorites. I ended taking around 2500 photos on my two weeks, I think. 300 just in Vicksburg. Vicksburg is actually one of my favorite towns of all time, just because of the history and the culture.

If you get back there, there is a place south of town called the "Tomato Place" - it's a roadside stand that has some AMAZING food. I had a BLT Po' Boy to die for. The people running the place were absolutely great.

P.S. The Kansas Monument STILL is the worst! I still wonder who got the kickback on that! $5,400 in '61 - my guess it was done for $200 and they DRANK the other $5,200! LOL! The rangers behind the counter were mortified that I hated that monument so much!

I just finished writing up the posts on the last day I spent in Vicksburg (the full day) back in October of 2014. I took 185 pictures of mostly the battlefield. I posted 106 waymarks and made 89 visits. I do have a few more visits to mark. It's only taken me a month of serious work to get this one day done, and I have several more to go!!!! I guess thatnk goodness for that cold Kansas weather so I'm not adding to the misery! Vicksburg is a great little town and I definitely recommend it for those interested in history and architecture. They also have a HUGE cemetery that is really facinating to explore.
