Monterra lifetime update stopped

According to Garmin helpdesk, lifetime product updates for the Monterra are stopped.

Clients will receive their money paid for the lifetime back on their bank account.

And what pray tell does this mean? I have a Monterra and I am about ready to return it to REI. A number of things not working correctly yet. POI's, map resets, etc. I like the screen, but a fair number of things still not right after almost a year!

Isn't Monterra their new top of the line, very expensive GPSr that run's android and has WiFi?

 

Are they abandoning this attempt at moving into the 2010s?

Some users seem to have severe problems while updating new maps.

I have no idea whether anything has changed which is relevant to the problems mentioned in this thread, but Garmin did just post an update to v. 3.50 for the Monterra.
