Release Notes - July 23, 2014

Looks like it would be fairly straight forward to have your emails sent to a gmail account, write a google apps script to process them, pull out the relevant bits, and forward to your real email as text. Has anybody tried something like this?
Ah yes, a Simple Matter of Programming™. Quite the straight-forward solution, really...

I wonder if there any good programmers in the Seattle area? Maybe for some freelance contract work...

Well... let me think... Microsoft is in Redmond... Nope, I guess not. :P

I haven't, but the real question is why does Groundspeak depend on third party apps and scripts to make their site useable? Seems like they would have enough pride to provide a useful product that their users and customers like. But apparently I have missed an important memo somewhere along the line.

I have to throw a +1 to this. (I think the first time I have down this on the forum).

I have no problem using GSAK to manipulate the data that Groundspeak provides, but having to use scripts on the web site to revert "improvements" is frustrating. The "grey icons" were horrible as every icon looked exactly the same to me. Thank God for the Lil Devil's script. It saved Geocaching for me. I'm not sure what's going to happen now.

I have a HTC One and maybe its the way I get texts but the new PUBLISH texts seem to not display the same for me as I have read above. For me the new way is not helpful because I do not have a distance or general location (1.5mi W or 4.5mi NW) Here is what I am getting:

New:

FRM:Geocaching

Cache: Out of Context

ajscuba, what you're seeing is the plain text part of a multipart e-mail message. Other people are seeing (and talking about) the HTML version.

which essentially comes down to the same issue: the forced HTML mails are bad.

some of the problems people are having with the changes:

- no or very bad plain text part in the multipart/html message -> useless on all text-only devices/readers

- message size several times bigger -> increased bandwidth use on mobile devices

- a lot of "wasted" space in the html message (logo, empty space) -> essential info more difficult to read, needs scrolling on small devices

- less information in the title/body -> useless for mail-to-sms services

- changed subject lines and body format -> existing filters and other automated processing broken

- bad readability of the forced color scheme on some devices

- bad readability of the forced font type on some devices

- bad readability of the forced font size on some devices

- html mails sometimes filtered as spam

- no option to receive plain text messages for those who would prefer it

I'm really disappointed. I loved to read notes coming from my watched caches and a lot of notifications. But the "new" HTLM versions are not an improvement at all. The information is spread around the text and some informations are even missing (even though some others have been added). I'm afraid I will reduce the entries in my watchlist and also disable notifications if we don't get back an efficient text only version again. For me HTML in an email is the wrong way (not only at Groundspeak). The content is important and not the presentation.

Sorry Groundspeak: HTML notifications is not an improvement and not requested if there is no option for text only informations.

... but I'm afraid Groundspeak does not care about the will of the users and just ignores all these comments of this forum.
