Fireflying
I was wondering if there was a way without purchasing the tracking bug, to just get a code and put it on your item. Or do you actually have to buy the tracking bug? I would just rather etch the code on my little bobblehead, and maybe put it in a plastic baggy with a paper stating that that was a trackable item. Are we allowed to do this? Quote Link to comment

Are we allowed to do this? It is possible, but there is a minimum to buy, and the thing the code is on has to be approved. So if you don't use all of the codes, or it's not approved, your SOL. Best thing to do is buy a TB and put that code, or put the TB itself on an item. Small toys, key chains, backpacks, cinder blocks..... Quote Link to comment
+palmetto
You can buy a travel bug tag and activate it, and then just use the code, without releasing the tag; "etch the code on my little bobblehead". I wouldn't do it this way, myself, as I think it makes your trackable less recognizable and more apt to disappear as a swag item in someone's hands. If you want it to be trackable and have its own page on Geocaching.com, you have to pay for that. For a few trackables, the tags are the cheapest option. It's also to possible to purchase codes in bulk, but that's for manufacture of coins, there's minimum purchase. See the pinned threads in this forum about geocoins. I don't think this at all what you're wanting. Quote Link to comment
+Lieblweb
Yes, you can buy any trackable .....whether its in dogtag, octant, geico, or whatever form it comes in when you purhcased it... You don't have to use that tag at all. You can keep the actual tag at home. Just take the code and put it on your 'item' of interest. But like palmetto mentioned and depending on the item itself - it could be mistaken for swag and stolen. Quote Link to comment
