BFG99 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 There's really no good way to broach this topic. There is a historical barn not too far from where I live that has a number of fiberglass cattle (from the "Cow Parade") in the lot. It's really a nice site from both a historical and an artistic perspective. Assuming that I get permission to place the cache, I've found a perfect hiding spot in the white picket fence. The only problem is, if I place it there, the cacher will almost certainly also get an eyeful of one of the (anatomically correct) fiberglass bull's hindquarters, as it's standing right next to the fence, facing away. So, my question...is that sufficient reason to try to find another location, or should I not worry about it? I've found other potential spots, but none quite as good as this one. Maybe the fact I feel like I have to ask is sufficient indication I should move it... Quote
+BAMBOOZLE Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 If the location is good I'd go for it. Made a few finds where the bulls were real.....glad the fence was there. Quote
+Touchstone Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I personally wouldn't have an issue finding a cache like you describe, but as the Cache Owner, you might want to consider the types of Log Entries you'll be receiving in your Inbox Good luck with the cache! Quote
+kunarion Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) consider the types of Log Entries you'll be receiving in your Inbox Yeah, like when you get a lot of "Thanks for bringing me here", not knowing if that's sarcastic, or if those people especially enjoyed the view. Anyway, I don't see why it won't be approved. As mentioned, it's less problematic than the real thing. And that's no bull. Edited June 30, 2014 by kunarion Quote

+Walts Hunting Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 We have a multi here where the first stage is magnetically stuck to the anatomical area you describe. Most of the logs are kind of cute actually. It is a huge bull 20' high that is the logo for the resyptaurant. Quote
BFG99 Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 Heh, I guess I won't worry too much about it then. I just thought some cachers might find it inappropriate/offensive, particularly if they bring their kids along, or that I deliberately placed it there. Guess I'll try it and see what happens...I can always move it. (Of course, this is all assuming I even get the permission to start with.) Quote
+The_Incredibles_ Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I say go for it. It would make for some interesting logs. As for kids, there's nothing wrong with an anatomy lesson. Quote
4wheelin_fool Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I don't think many would find it necessary to shield a child's eyes from looking at an animal, or even an image of one. It might be a different situation if you place the cache on its genitalia, however.. Quote
+giddeanx Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Head it off at the pass and name the cache Rocky Mountain Oysters or something similar. Quote
+BCandMsKitty Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 A hide like that would probably get a fav. point from us! Quote
+DanOCan Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 My usual rule of thumb is "If you have to ask then it's likely a bad idea." butt in this case I think it's a great idea. Quote
+.LMN. Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I agree, not a bad idea. I'm sure they've seen other animal parts. If they have a dog, there probably shouldn't be a problem. Quote
BFG99 Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 Well, looks like a moot point anyway. The owner of the site took a while to get back to me but ended up deciding not to let me place a cache. Oh well! Quote
+wimseyguy Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 (edited) Many years ago a cacher in Jacksonville FL hid a few that were known locally as the veterinary proctological series. The response was one of the most popular caches in the area: The Federation Must Pay. Spoiler Alert: But back to the bovine query-Durham NC is known as the Bull City (Bull Durham anyone?) Take one guess where the final stage of this multi is placed? There's one pic in the gallery that really gives it away. Edited July 1, 2014 by wimseyguy Quote
BFG99 Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 D'oh! Would you believe I've been right there, 5 feet away from that statue, and I didn't know there was a cache there? Figures. Quote
BFG99 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 It's really too bad I didn't get permission to place one here - it would've been a great location, bringing additional attention to the site, and there are very few caches in the immediate vicinity. Oh well. Quote
