Oregon 450 setup help

I purchased a Garmin Oregon 450 to do some geocaching with. I haven't been able to properly setup the device in order to successfully find any caches or I'm using it wrong. If some one has some hints as to how to setup device for best geocaching hunts I'd really appreciate it. And or using it what mode etc to use in geocaching. Things like maps - orientation, geocaches all segments, routing, gps mode etc. Thnks

The first step is to go to Profile Change in the main menu and make sure it's set to Geocaching. There are more tweaks you can do later, but that will make it usable for caching.

Personally, I like the "recreational" mode better, it seems to work better for finding geo's. Just my opinion, yours may vary. Best way to tell is to try them both.

Well, the nice thing about using the geocaching profile (or simply the geocaching dashboard on the map) is that you have a one-touch link to all of the geocache options rather than having to hit the back button, find your geocaches icon, then choose your action.

 

It's also nice having the compass point to your cache while on the map page.

 

Those are my preferences.
