I'm drunk and I have a lot of opinions thread?

Again? You should save your money and buy cache containers.

You never heard of "message in a bottle"? I empty my whiskey bottle and make a cache.

Ha ha, good one!

Am I the only one who's too cheap to buy booze? It seems like an expensive way to make pee.

At leas with a cache container, you get something you can hold in your hand.

I've been too busy preparing for our big move to cache. I had a small flip out the other day. OK, a BIG flip out. I'm pretty sure they heard me 5 blocks away. Definitely a withdrawal symptom. For everyone's safety, I must go find some caches soon..... :o

Let me guess - the tenant ignored your cute sign and didn't take off his boots after stepping in dog-doo!

I guess there are no unfound quick caches, like in the store parking lot? Anyway, everyone knows that every LPC is home to huge swarms of killer bees. And Nashville has people dropping like flies from electrified posts.

No, I took care of that guy. I had a fit because another tenant put recyclables in the garbage and garbage in the recycle bin. Yes, all bins are CLEARLY labelled. All of this is normal stuff I usually deal with, but the stress of no caching put me over the edge. Who knew I could scream so loud?

For me, a parking lot cache wouldn't do it. I need a good hike in the forest...alone and away from people who can't read. This is all happening tomorrow, God willing.

Moving is ultra-stressful & hikes in the woods restore peace. Sounds like you can come up for air in a few days.

A lunch spot has 3 separate trash bins - recycle, compost & landfill. By each is a dispay showing examples of each. 90% of people get it right. I "marvel" at the others, as does the employee you has to correct the mistakes of the clueless.

I had a weird DNF today http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=24d333a8-e2f9-4e71-9a54-d2f2d12e21da

It was more of a "did not look" situation where I would not normally have logged anything, but I thought it was strange enough to write about.

Oh... and when I got home my sister called me and told me that my grandma is on hospice.

What's up with all this deathiness?

In more cache related news, I obtained five of the virtual stickers today. I did my first Virtual and my first Earth caches today. The Virtual was pretty cool. The Earth cache is actually a location I have been to a bahjillion times, but I just don't like the whole "emailing answers and taking gps selfies" thing.

That's an excellent log. I like how you write. I especially liked this part:

I Lack People Skills

I wish more people would be honest like this. Keep writing these good logs. Sometimes the DNF logs are the most interesting.

When I die, I definitely don't want a long procession or a fancy hearse. They can cremate me, sprinkle me somewhere and then get on with their lives.

When the funeral home / crematorium picks up bodies (from home/hospital/nursing home) they use a hearse or crappy mini van alternative (in Michigan, New York and Alaska... I assume elsewhere). I plan to be cremated as well, but I want them to pick me up in a classy hearse. It's one of my "demands" I have told loved ones about when I die. I'll have a funeral, perhaps a dozen will attend. I'm good with that.

I am socially inept, I'm glad you appreciate me pointing that out. Thank you for the kind words on my strange experience log.

We've got the crappy vans here too. They hauled our neighbor out with one of those. I agree, there was nothing classy about it, but he was a cheap guy (despite his wealth) and probably would have liked it that way. I don't think you're totally socially inept or you wouldn't have thought to thank me for the compliment. I am socially inept too, however, I've gotten pretty good at 'faking it' when required.

I finally got to go geocaching today. I didn't find any, but I managed to do cache maintenance on 2 and hide a new one (an ammo can that I had given to me). Had a couple of nice sweaty hikes, both in beautiful areas. Definitely helped release some of my pent-up anger. I think if more people geocached, the murder rate would go down. :)

I was getting potentially murderous as well. These are the first caches I have found this month. I normally am a one-cache-per-day kind of person (a nice long walk in the woods with my dog being the goal, rather than driving all over to nab film canisters) but today I went to several interesting locations. It was nice, I got sweaty, my dog got stinky.

I have a Tim Horton's within walking distance. I should go try one. I was just talking to my sister about Tim Horton's vs. Dunkin Donuts. Tim's has the very best coffee of all chain places. Dunkin's doughnuts are better, even though they don't spell it correctly.

Link to comment

I've bought a number of gift cards from Tim Horton's for FTF prizes. I like that it's not just donuts. There are plenty of things on the menu to suit all tastes.

Speaking of Timmies, there's a local puzzle cache on donuts. I wrote an annoyingly long log on it which reflected the annoying amount of time I spent on the puzzle. Unfortunately, they keep changing the calories in their donuts, which has messed up the puzzle more than once. Did you know their donuts are slowly shrinking?

My husband has decided to watch his intake. It came as an earth shatteringly astonishing surprise to him that Timbits were 70 calories each. He went on to inform me that the smallest they sell them is a box of ten, so Tim Hortons is FORCING people to eat 700 calories each morning. When I told him that you can buy them one at a time he refused to accept this.

That puzzle would have driven me insane. Sometimes I look at puzzles and it makes me say swear words and question the CO's brain activity.

Recipe for Saltwater

Ingredients: Water, Salt

Add both together and mix well.

Serve if you or your guest(s) so desire.

I've found several caches in August. I don't know how many I will find, but I can't think of a good enough reason to stop.

That salt water recipe is fine for a salt water fish tank, but doesn't explain why sea salt tastes different (better? more complex?) than table salt (sodium chloride).

Salt water from the ocean has more ingredients - many more. Here is the start of the list in order of magnitude:

Hydrogen H2O Oxygen H2O Sodium NaCl Chlorine NaCl Magnesium Mg Sulfur S Potassium K Calcium Ca Bromine Br

The first four form table salt and water. The next two or three are significant and affect taste. After that you start to get into microscopic amounts of virtually everything on the planet, although many ingredients are measured in parts per billion or less.

Um isn't that a happy liver? I will agree with the Ukelele.

I will also agree with your husband that 10 is the absolute minimum of Timmy's Timbits one can consume.

Oh I found my information for an Earth Cache that I had done back in June. I was proud of myself because I actually logged it for June instead of August to get the souvenir.

Pancreas.jpg Yeah... the pancreas just isn't particularly attractive, and gets uglier if shown in cartoon form.

My job has been interfering with my caching for the past two days. There's an (probably) easy one between me and work, but it's behind a cemetery so I can't get it after work and I lack the motivation to leave early.

Last night I saw upon the stair

A little man who wasn't there

He wasn't there again today

Gee! I wish he'd go away!

Reminds me of all the imaginary, and real, spiders that haunted my last DNF. :signalviolin:

The photo makes me think that either the family likes to sing or mom or dad is a dentist. :D

Yesterday my Beloved Husband took me away from our usual area and found three geocaches with me. It was one of the best days I have had in a long time. Today he took me in search of a supposedly haunted crypt. I don't know if I'm allowed to list the website here but it has the words Weird and a state name in it. I currently live in New York and I noticed there was a Weird thing sort of near me. There is a crypt of a lady named Eunice and the story goes that if you knock on the door, "Eunice" knocks back at you.

The website states the following for cemetery location:

on Route 8 in New York State between Unadilla and Bridgewater

Which is sort of like saying "in New York, between Pennsylvania and Canada" as far as narrowing it down. It further clarifies:

The cemetery has no name, but is visible on the left hand side going north on Route 8 on a slow curve of road followed by a large cornfield

This clue is not a great deal of help while driving a curvy road that has constant corn fields... and where there are not cornfields, there are cemeteries. I'm really not kidding.

But we were determined. We found it, and are certain it was the correct place based on the photographs.

My Beloved Husband knocked first in a "I'm the man so I'm going to do it" way, then told me it was my turn. I knocked and it was open! I pushed at the door, and thick old layers of cobwebs stretched. My husband began to get nervous, not it a "zoinks, jeepers" kind of way, but in a "you really shouldn't be disrespectful to a final resting place" kind of way. I did not believe I was being disrespectful, but curious. I wanted to see what it looked like inside. Eunice, or somebody opened the door for me. I should be able to check it out.

And I saw....

Really old beer bottles and an equally old mower. Lots of really old beer bottles. Like the caretaker of the cemetery was determined to construct his own crypt using some sort of elaborate cordwood masonry.

Pagoda,_Johnson_City,_NY.jpg

That picture is actually of the pumphouse pagoda in Johnson City NY, and is pretty cool there are all kinds of things used in the making of the structure. Chains, knives, grease guns, bowling pins, etc.

Snipped the pumphouse pagoda, although it's very interesting. I don't see why you couldn't mention Weirdus.com :) I hadn't been there in so long, I don't believe they had a New York page. Seems OK and updated. I think they have different people for every State, because to the South of you for Pa., it implies that Mount Airy Lodge (demolished in 2007 in favor of a Casino) is still "abandoned". However, Centralia Pa., the burning town, is highly cool. It's an Earthcache, owned by one of my geo-pals.

Mr. Yuck, I was reluctant to say it because they sell their own book and etc. on the website so I wasn't sure if it was okay. I made it pretty obvious though, so I'm glad you came out and said weirdus.com. I am a huge fan of weird things. I am the one who always wants to stop at the Mystery Spot and pay some guy a dollar to see his baby rattlers.

The pagoda thing is very cool Team Proline (Vargseld's parents) put a geocache there GCTDJN and people photograph some of their favorite uncommon objects imbedded in the walls. There are an astonishing number of bowling pin pictures. People like bowling pins.

Thank you Mrs. Car54 :) If you had been there you could have knocked for Eunice too. Afterwards we stopped at a restaurant / lounge. We went in to get some dinner, but were told there was no food, just beer.

Then we were hungry and confused. Where are we going to get food if restaurants only have beer?

Today I went looking for a cache, and found two pairs of pants instead.

Weird.

Later I ran into "fellow cachers" which was weird and awkward. I found that I wasn't self conscious of the fact that I was sweaty and had twigs in my hair. Either they understand or they are ... that other kind of cacher.
