+Iowa Mongoose
If you have a missing Geocoin trackable, I would check E-Bay, I've noticed at least one seller with fifteen activated trackable Geocoins listed at auction. I'm not saying the seller has stolen them, I'm saying the seller states on their site that they know nothing about these Geocoins. However, it's interesting to note that even though they know nothing about them, they do seem to know enough about Geocaching to find out if the Geocoins have been activated. Apparently though, the seller hasn't had the desire to notify the owners of said activated Geocoins, but does have the intent to sell them to the highest bidder. I don't know what that means to you but it seems a bit suspicious to me... below is a link to the sellers sight showing just one of the fifteen Geocoins I saw. http://www.ebay.com/itm/geocaching-geocoin-Julius-Quintilis-Moon-Coin-Jewel-/271523561493?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f3810c015 Quote Link to comment

+Iowa Mongoose
Why not one post in the geocoin forums? Edited to add... This one of many did get sent to the geocoin forum. Thank you, didn't know there was a Geocoin forum, too new at this. Wanted to get topic nation wide a.s.a.p. to be sure people are aware to look on Ebay, and sites like it. The way it was worded when I saw the auction items the other day the seller implied they were all activated Geocoins. The seller must have changed the wording or perhaps you can see the numbers on them, I'm waiting on a reply back from the seller as to how they came by the coins that they could go so inexpensively. Anyway, I was posting in all sections of the United States So I'll go delete my other forum posts. Thank you for straightening me out. Edited June 18, 2014 by IowaMongoose Quote Link to comment

Clicked on the link from the Forum manager for another Forum, it sent me here where they had very kindly relocated my original post to a more appropriate Forum for me. Thank you for y'alls patience with a "newbie" Geocacher and Forum poster. Quote Link to comment

+Toojin
I saw three that were activated. Two of which were just placed in an event cache today. Event: http://coord.info/GC56XGM http://coord.info/TB1490X http://coord.info/TB2MGWJ and the third one http://coord.info/TB2E7TR; I sent message to owner. Quote Link to comment

The first two were just placed in the event cache today. That weirded me out a bit. I received an email back from seller who was auctioning these Geocoins through E-Bay, this is what it said: From: shaylynnshops To: wndlngeiger Subject: Re: Details about item: wndlngeiger sent a message about geocaching geocoin 2002 Michigan Trackable Coin #271523508495 Sent Date: Jun-17-14 16:26:42 PDT Dear wndlngeiger, I don't know anything about geocoins. We obtained them from purchasing the contents of a storage locker. - shaylynnshops I advised seller to remove Geocoins from site (twice) and check Geocoin numbers on Geocaching.com website and to notify all owners of coins so that she is not assumed to be and and perhaps charged with selling stolen Geocoins. We'll see what a little tough handed wording does for her. Also advised her to get in touch with some local Geocachers who can better advise/help her before she lists Geocoins in the future, perhaps this is why they are suddenly showing up at an event. Or maybe this seller is a Geocacher themselves and just didn't thing they'd get caught? Anyway I was straight up with her. Quote Link to comment
+JoergWausW
The problem behind all this: Activated Geocoins that you find in caches and that are not your own, must not be stored in lockers. The person who put it in a locker obviously didn't do what the owner of the item intented: Keep it traveling from cache® to cache®. So locking up another cacher's geocoin with personal belongings could be considered theft. People who legally (for whatever reason) obtain content of a locker or other personal storaged stuff, can't be expected to know whether a geocoin is activated or how to check that - even if they read "trackable at Geocaching.com" on it. Nor can they know what it means that a Geocoin is activated or what a Geocoin really is. Keeping/seeling those activated coins may be considereds 'Possession of stolen goods'. Maybe it helps to prove to those people that this is what they are doing. This should include explaining how to use the tracking number, a link to the coin's page (best would be using the one that cointains the number, e.g. at the end there is tracker=PC....) and quoting the goal (if there is one) and the owner of the item. Got email back from seller who was in a panic, seems honestly concerned about this and wants to get it straightened out a.s.a.p. advised of what you said, and gave the following links: http://www.geocaching.com/guide/default.aspx http://www.geocaching.com/track/geocoinfaq.aspx http://www.geocaching.com/track/howtogeocoin.aspx http://www.geocaching.com/track/geocoin.aspx Question: without being a premium member can she contact the owners of the Geocoins (that haven't been sold) herself, without having to set up an account? +Iowa Mongoose
The Seller has removed all the Geocoins from her site, I notified two of the owners on Geocaching.com whose coins had been bid upon... I finally figured out there's a magnification feature on my computer so was able to read the Geocoins. I hope everyone who was inadvertently involved by owning one of the Geocoins she had for sale will be able to get them back, she sounded as if she was really trying, we'll see. I also hope that since she seems to really be trying that she'll get the loss she took, on this storage unit, back on the next one - that would be cool because it sounds (from our emails back and forth) as if she really didn't know what she'd found or what she was selling. +LadyBee4T
They are back for sale it looks like. These aren't the same coins she had listed before. She states that they are all unactivated and has covered the tracking number in her pictures. It is still strange that she listed two before that were dropped into those events. Quote Link to comment
