"Camping" event guideline update

Recommended Posts

Earlier this year the event guideline was updated to add the requirement that events must include both a start time and end time. This applies to any event no matter where it is located. In the UK, events at campsites are popular especially during Mega events. These are often referred to as ‘camping events’ or ‘Mega camping’ even though there are no such event types. The Help Center has an article about events at campsites and certain requirements organisers may need to meet with regard to campsite access. Any event at a campsite (including those at a Mega event) will need to have a start and end time (the Help Center article has been updated with this information).

Event stacking is a term used to describe multiple events at the same location that follow on from each other. The event guideline says this, “Events with several elements, a sequence of events, or events that are near the same time or location and intended for the same audience should be submitted as a single event.” With the need to have a start and end time it means multiple events during a camping weekend may not be publishable. For example; if the event at the campsite is to run from Friday morning to Monday lunchtime and those are the start and end times then no other event would be allowed at the campsite during this time. Sometimes event organisers may want a ‘welcome drinks’ event on the Friday evening, a ‘barbeque’ on the Saturday and perhaps a ‘farewell breakfast’ on the Monday morning. These would not be allowed. What organisers would need to do is arrange the event times so one of these becomes the main event, for example the Saturday evening BBQ.
