Accidently dropped the wrong travel tag

I am new to Geocaching and have 1 trackable sticker on my back window, 2 Geo coins and 1 Geo tag. I did some geocaching on a recent camping trip dropping what I thought was the Geo tag (not realizing I had not registered it yet so it was not in my inventory) so I dropped the window sticker instead thinking it was the Geo tag. Upon realizing what the problem was I registered the tag which is actually what I dropped then went back to the cache log and dropped the tag and left a message on my log as to which one was the correct one. I have been trying to figure out how to get the incorrect one off the log but can not figure out how to do that. Can anybody help me with this mess I have created. Newbies.....ya gotta love em. Don't DELETE... not yet. You can get it back into your inventory with a "Retrieved" log or a "Grabbed from..." log.

 

You see, deleting the log does not remove the trackable from the cache inventory, nor does it return it to your inventory. It needs to be a Retrieval or Grab log to remove it and put it back into your "possession".

 

This is truly a case of deleting being the LAST thing you want to do. Do all the proper logging and get it done correctly.... THEN if you want to delete the offending logs, do so... but do it LAST, after finishing the right (good) stuff.

 

Luckily, being your trackables, you always have the tracking number available to you. If this was done with somebody else' trackable, you usually don't have the number to correct the mistake(s). Most folks have a habit of relying on the electronic drop (baaad mistake, relying solely on such a maneuver). Why would they need to have the number? They dropped it, right?.... Oops. No way to fix it without the number.

 

HINT: Always hold on to a tracking number until you are sure that all logging is done and done correctly. I (we) still have the number to every trackable we have ever moved. Just too lazy to pitch them, I guess.

Thanks for your response and advice on keeping the tracking numbers. I figured this out just before I received your message and retrieved it back into my inventory. I must say I have learned much this weekend while being devoured my skeeters, I will be adding OFF to my Geo-Bag. Again thanks for your advice on keeping the numbers, that will be the way I will do it.
