Virtual Caching

I spent yesterday afternoon hiking in the Wichita Mountains, taking advantage of what may be the last warm weather for a while. Revisited Calibrate and Third Highest Point in Sooner State last night at sunset, just after logging Bonanza!

On the way to Bonanza! -- rock scramble

One more -- could double up with the night photo thread, but figured I'd put it here. Shot of the 3-state corner monument at Coloklakan on a starry night, used my hiking stick as a monopod (I hollowed out the top and glued in a tripod thread for my camera) and used my headlamp to light up the monument.

After visiting earthcaches at the main attraction, we explored more Natural Bridges near Angels Camp in California. If it weren't for this virtual, I might not have known to go further. We scrambled over rocks, following a creek and a small path lined with poison oak. We had the place to ourselves, although we met numerous people coming down the trail as we were leaving. Another reason to come to this area early.

We might never have visited Clifton, Arizona, if not t had not been for Hoosegow. But then we would also have missed being invited to see the old Union Hall (from the 1983 strike) - the mural there and the owner's collection of paintings by a very talented African-American artist. Who would have thought to find this kind of collection in a mining town that has probably seen its better days.

Hiking to Lyons Ranch in the Redwods National Park, another place that I may not have visited except for this game and the way that virtuals have expanded my experience - a stunning walk across a high prairie ridge, blanketed with wildflowers, overlooking deep forested valleys, to the remains of the ranch.

Our second trip to the Standing Stones of Calanais on the Isle of Lewis - my favorite megalithic site, even better than Stonehenge.   The virtual focuses only on three of the locations, but it will get you started.

i fantasized about buying a nearby house that is for sale and coming here every day through the seasons and light.   At the end of my life I would have either learned something or not.
