+kwcahart
The 62s I have looks like the letters on the buttons just dissolved. It looks terrible and some of them you can't read at all. I contacted Garmin Support, they replied almost instantly, told me the unit is in warranty and they gave me an RMA number to send it in. Very good support in my opinion, thanks Garmin. Anyone else have the letter/button problem or is it just mine? The letters have just totally worn off several of the buttons! Quote Link to comment
RamblinBear
You're not alone. Several users on this forum have reported the rather poor durability of the lettering on the buttons of their 62s. Many have said that their old GPSMap 60s were much better in this regard. Let's hope the 64 is better. Quote Link to comment
+kwcahart
Amen! Maybe they (Garmin) will replace them with something more durable. I sent it in so we will see. Quote Link to comment
+BAMBOOZLE
This is a baffling problem that goes back to the units inception. I have 3 and have had no problem so far ( one is practically new ). Why do some fail and not others? As yours is in warranty it is fairly new so nothing has been done. Has Garmin said anything about why these buttons fail ? Quote Link to comment

If your definition is the same as the OP's ("The letters have just totally worn off several of the buttons"), it probably has something to do with the environmental conditions the unit has been used in, including the user's handling of the unit and the buttons. The buttons on my 60Csx are now totally unreadable, and have been for years, but the buttons all still function. --Larry Quote Link to comment

I also have a 60 CSx that was used for years and shows no wear. I will say we have always carried our units in a soft canvas belt holster. Also, I just look for caches and mark them found....we don't do a lot of data entry. Could be a chemical ( bug spray ? ) thing or a climate thing. If they all did it that would be one thing but as it is it seems to be a mystery. Quote Link to comment
