I have a friend who makes things out of polished Lake Superior rocks. Would it be inappropriate to leave a polished rock with a business card in a geocache that I have found? Is that too commercial?

There are no rules about "commercial" trade items. Lots of common trade items are commercial (promotional freebies, kid meal toys, etc.).

 

To keep the business card and the polished rock together, and to protect the business card from moisture, you might consider putting them both in a small ziplock plastic bag. You should be able to find them in various sizes in the beadwork section of the local craft store.
